Sea Dramas’ Upcoming Until the Dark Goes Out

Posted on:

Sea Dramas‘ new album, Until the Dark Goes Out, is sixties-inspired hazy folk and feels like the Magnetic Fields, sixties British rock and a tiny wisp of the beach. Killer warm guitar, happy melodies and pleasing vocals. We want to say this is the “perfect album for summer” but we’ll be digging on this long after the heat is gone. Enjoy their new video for single “22 Renewal,” which features lots of sixties hipsters checking each other out and looking generally aware of themselves in a very mesmerizing-to-watch way. Stay tuned for upcoming shows. – Michelle Kicherer, Associate Editor

Boy Scouts plays Phono del Sol June 15th

Posted on:

Phono del Sol is a free festival at Potrero del Sol park. This year’s lineup features an Oakland favorite, Boy Scouts, whose folksy bedroom pop-rock is relaxing, charming and damn good. Taylor Vick’s vocals are sweet and pitch perfect, a fine complement to the keys and strums. Boy Scouts’ last release, Spiritual Pickle, is a 2-song sampler. Tracks “Kite” and “My Idiot Brain” are lofi, low pressure and highly pleasing. Catch Boy Scouts at Phono del Sol and wherever else they’re playing comin’ up soon! Stay tuned. – Lucille Faulkner

Posted on:

Post-punk pop rock cuatro Same Girls just came out with their new single, “Wait” and it’s a perfect blend of their varied interested and influences. You can hear The Clash and The Strokes and some 80’s energy almost reminiscent of the B-52’s. Lead vocalist Taifa Nia’s is energetic and fun. Nia says the new single, "describe the loneliness and the heartbreak endemic in our esthetically obsessed clout culture." Listen here! – Lucille Faulkner

Posted on:

Broke for Free (BFF) just released a fun and weird video for their new track “Jibberish (Feat Awon)" and it is a weird and fun trip we won’t even try to explain. He’s an all over the place hip hop eletro pop creator and “Jibberish” is a perfect introduction to his work. –Michelle Kicherer, Associate Editor

A Deli Premiere: Red Steppes’ “Madera” & June 7th Show

Posted on:

Noise Pop nailed another solid show next month at Cafe du Nord. A power trio of a line up: Red Steppes, Sis, and Range of Light Wilderness. Red Steppes presents a surreal folk with vocal stylings like a less high-pitched Joni Mitchell infused with just the right touch of gentle keys and synths (god bless you, Native Cat, another gem). To be quite frank, it’s beautiful. We’re proud to premier the video for “Madera” here. Stay tuned for much more on Sis and Range of Light Wilderness. – Michelle Kicherer, Associate Editor

Bill Baird’s Trippy “Facial Disc” and Oakland May 11th show

Posted on:

Nothing like a gentleman in a fine silky dress and a fencing mask jamming some psychedelic beats inside what looks like a computer but also a terrifying highway ride. It’s quite a pleasant experience, really. That’s Bill Baird’s "Facial Disc." The rest of Baird’s new LP, Owl (which just came out on Dangerbird Records) is a similarly synthed-psyched collection of pleasing weirdness and videos that link together to create a longer piece. To learn more, please see the man’s appropriately named website, www.billbillbillbillbill.com/ and go see him at the tail end of his tour! May 11th at Pro Arts. Special shout out to Oakland’s awesome Vintage Synth Museum for providing the synths that created this album. – Michelle Kicherer, Associate Editor
