Rock n’ roll revivalists Fortress Social Club are set to release their new full-length Dreamin’ the Life on June 18th. Here’s the jaunty, rollicking track “Business by Day, Business by Night”.

Back in Brooklyn, she was known as Bitch. Now that the Indie Electro songstress is putting down roots in sunny Los Angeles, she’s going by the more SoCal appropriate name, BEACH. The first single off her upcoming LP, ‘In Us We Trust,’ set for release July 16 on her own label, Short Story Records, is a humorously biting break-up song hoping to become your summertime anthem. Dirty beats courtesy of her collaborator, Alligator, and a rap breakdown amidst the repeated “Ibuprofen when you gonna kick in?” are harkening to an MIA comparison, but BEACH has her own story to tell. A classically trained violinist from the age of four – she even took fiddling lessons from Andrew Bird – she now brings her dance-y rock tunes to life with an electric version. BEACH is staying busy working on a documentary and touring in support of her upcoming release. – Jacqueline Caruso

 The Summer Music Festival Season is upon us and it’s sure to be a busy one. The Jubilee Music & Arts Festival, which was formerly the Silverlake Jubilee, will kick off the local season with a lineup of 50 musical acts, as well as authors, comedians, and of course vendors, food trucks and adult beverages. Spanning the weekend of June 7-8, the Fest will set up shop in the Arts District at Santa Fe and 6th Street. The lineup boasts Black Lips headlining Friday night and The Drums on Saturday, with a plethora of local and touring bands in between. It’s an awesomely overwhelming list, which the masterminds behind it all have attempted to simplify by allowing you to create your own custom schedule on their site. The enigmatic drift of Western Lows stifles as much as it soothes, placing an emphasis on its whooshing atmospheric soundscapes with a distancing mood. The frame in which the trio works may be wide in scope, but instead of wandering in nebulous distortion, their arrangements have a more direct melodic approach. The songs they’ve unveiled off their upcoming release "Glacier" are finely calibrated with slick shoegazing guitar work, yet the driving rhythm section is the backbone of the band, constantly veering in subtle textures while never dismissing the central beat of the song. The coy shiver of singer Jack Burnside brings on a pleasant lull that is just right to the band’s controlled bliss, capturing an expansive panorama that is glazed with a melancholic tinge. Produced by Andy LeMaster of Now It’s Overhead fame (Azure Ray, Bright Eyes), "Glacier" will be released on July 9th via Jaxart Records. It’s sure to temper the upcoming summer heat.

Songwriter/composer Jonathan Haskell, known as Seven Saturdays, has just unveiled a video for the song "One in 3", which is part of his upcoming self-titled release, out on May 28th. There’s an aura of mystery surrounding the video, which depicts a portrait of self-discovery for a man and a woman as their ties of brotherly affection are strenghtened in the process. Or at least that’s what lead me to believe. Regardless, the stark, commanding images fit the song’s ambient synth segues and nippy guitar passages.

Echo Park based label Sargent House is set to take over the Echo and Echoplex this Thursday and Friday. Japanese post-noise trio, Boris, will be headlining both nights at the Echoplex playing a wide array of classics and never before heard tunes. San Francisco-based black metal quintet, Deafheaven, will be joining them both nights at the Echoplex, with Marriages opening the show on Thursday and Ides of Gemini on Friday night. Some hardcore math rock will be taking over the Echo on Thursday night with NorCal band, Tera Melos headlining, and Oxford based This Town Needs Guns lending support. Marriages, formerly Red Sparowes, are the newest band to join the family, and are based here in Los Angeles. Having recently released their debut EP, Kitsune, they have announced a national tour in support of Deafheaven this summer. Founded in 2012 by Jayk Gallagher, Hobart W Fink describe themselves as slightly nerdy, ironic indie rock with a soupçon of grunge. The band’s co-lead singers, Gallagher and Marie Bollinger, blend razor sharp harmonies atop their eclectic stew of rock influences. Their debut single, “Hundred Dollar Bill,” is gutsy, grungy, and raw. A fast-paced and edgy rock tune that never takes itself too seriously. What is merely a tease to his upcoming full length release, “Remind Me,” is the first single off of experimentalist Lee Noble’s ‘Ruiner’ LP. With a touch of drone-y atmospherics, the song dishes out a heavy does of mood while managing to maintain a sense of rhythm and melody that is more often neglected in this genre for the sake of boundary-pushing. Crunchy guitar swells drift atop lo-fi drum machine loops and ambient sound design as Noble moans with the emotional inflection found on Thom York’s ‘Eraser,’ and the affected lethargy of early Atlas Sound. Dappled with homespun distortions and hiss, “Remind Me” never ambles too far out of reach yet stays rooted in the authenticity of it’s derivatives. ‘Ruiner’ is set for release September 5 on Bathetic Records. – Jacqueline Caruso

Bestial Mouths create dank, uncompromising onlsuahgts of noise that are as seductive as they are disconcerting. The trio nudges the fearless behavior of no wave, piercing together swaths of synth goop and subtle tribal motifs that enact a distressing feeling of claustrophobia. Singer Lynette Crezo is a force to be reckoned with, a tall, spidery vixen that bellows a cry of war with an impassioned vehemence. On June 25th, they return with their self-titled follow-up to Hissing Veil, produced by electronic Toronto DJ Egyptrixx. Presence all the chaos unfold at 5 Star Bar on May 23rd, followed by a performance at the Troubadour on June 23rd.

This past March, we unveiled the first single from psych-pop duo Honeymooon. As they continue to work on their first full-length effort, they’ve just released a new potential tease in the form of "Sure Stuck", a limpid, lush pop tune with a chugging motorik groove that pays homage to the minimalist melodies of Krautrock duo Neu! It’s fitting with what they’re hoping to achieve as a whole, which they decribe as "Todd Rundgren crawling through lost 70’s albums".

Hot off their Harvard & Stone Residency, The Black Apples have released the video for their cheery surf pop tune, “Tales and Truths,” off of their EP of the same name. The video showcases the band playing live while a beautiful woman wanders in the dappled sunlight of an unknown wilderness. It’s almost a video within a video, and while there isn’t much of a narrative, the charisma of frontman, Campbell Scarborough, is sure to hold your attention. Rife with delightful harmonies, and bordering on both the anthemic, and at times, the bubblegum, their sound is always rooted in that ever present garage rock sound that’s permeating the LA atmosphere. Brothers, Giovan and Mario Polanco, have been making music together for over a decade. Their latest project, Moons of Mars, is pop at it’s best, mixing cleverly crafted hooks with intelligent electronic production. “I Want You Here” is an emotionally-driven mid-tempo tune sprinkled with indie pop touches and an R&B-style melodic groove.
