Post punk rockers Lights On have just released their debut album ‘Here Comes The Ocean’. The San Diego based band has a touch of 80’s New Wave, but still remains uniquely moden. It’s just too bad they’re currently playing some dates in New York before returning home at the end of the month.

Every once in a while, I go on a music hunt across the internet. Just when I had lost all hope of finding sonic treasure, I came across local rock outfit Culprit. Infectious melodies and powerful vocals bring hope to a genre that’s been getting stale.

These boys will be supplying their talents at Boderline in Thousand Oaks on July 18th, along with Kayaks and The Mowgli’s.

Eagle Rock’s sweet indie folk troupe, Marvelous Toy, have a show with LA-by-way-of-Australia’s Andy Clockwise and folk rockers, The Silent Comedy coming up on Tuesday July 13, at The Troubadour. Andy Clockwise returns to Summer in LA from an Australian tour this May with a new single. His new record, The Socialite, is available down under now and coming to the States soon. The Silent Comedy just did a stint opening for Mumford & Sons, in case you weren’t lucky enough to catch that. The print issue of The Deli Magazine Los Angeles features an interview with Marvelous Toy helmer, Jordan Hudock. The summer issue hits the streets in about a month. So Many Wizards, the Long Beach-based bedroom pop outfit opens tonight’s Rumble at the 3 of Clubs in Hollywood. Their chops smack of Animal Collective with likable weirder similarities to other local indie troupes Moses Campbell and Pizza! Headlining is A B & the Sea from up north by The Bay, and also playing is What Laura Says from Tempe, AZ.  

Shepard Fairey has a huge posse, and it’ll only get bigger Saturday, July 10 as he and heavyweights of the L.A. music scene (Mansons Marilyn and Shirley, Gerard Way, Matt Skiba and Adam Jones of Tool) gather to honor Alternative Press magazine’s 25th anniversary. The Merry Karnowsky Gallery will be home to a month-long exhibition of these notables’ artwork. The Deli chatted with Fairey about his contributions to the collection.

The Deli: Describe your pieces in the show.

Shepard Fairey: I have four different faux album covers – Obey designs that reference music history. (They’re) my tribute to the impact of LP designs. One is (Sex Pistol and Indie 103.1 DJ) Steve Jones in front of the jukebox.

The Deli: How did you get involved with the project?

SF: I’ve drawn from the inspiration of music a lot, and Merry Karnowsky is a friend of mine, so it made sense. Music is more populist; it’s more democratic; it’s more fun (than strict art). I try to have my art have that immediate appeal.

The Deli: Any upcoming projects?

SF: Doing illustrations (inspired by) the BP oil spill. There’s an ambiguity to them – seascapes that you sort of see as a Rorschach test. Also going to San Diego for a mural street show (Viva la Revolución: A Dialogue with the Urban Landscape, running July 18, 2010-Jan. 2, 2011, at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego).

The Alternative Press Magazine 25th Anniversary Art Show is open to the public July 10-24 at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery, 170 S. La Brea Ave. in Los Angeles.

The myopic, mysterious pop outfit Fol Chen plays The Echo this Tuesday July 6. Below is a leak of their next single from their upcoming sophomore release Part II: The New December (out July 6th). "The Holograms" is a clever song of forgotten names and words which bounces along on one of the album’s catchiest melodies. They will be touring the West Coast this July and will embark on a handful of East Coast dates with the rising glo-fi/future beatmaker Baths.

Socal and Norcal unite as Admiral Radley—a symbiosis of members of Modesto’s Grandaddy and L.A.’s Earlimart. Mounting a tour through Central California’s Podunk truck stops, the band kicks it off with a free concert at the Hammer Museum in West L.A. on July 8, with sprightly locals Happy Hollows. Central Cali is a place of simultaneous desolation and abundance—in its desert and farmland, in its flatlands and its mountains. Some of the best crowds to play are in the Central Valley, and bands often build a faithful listening base there because—well, it’s the coolest thing to do there. Admiral Radley will undoubtedly be the talk of these small towns and midsize cities for the next month. The Deli wishes them a bountiful tour, as it’s a noble journey upon which they embark.

International director and artist Noaz Deshe directed and drew IMA ROBOT’s video for ‘Ruthless’, the first single off their forthcoming album. With EDC and Warped Tour fresh in the minds of some of you, this may be what you need to wind down after a hectic weekend.
