girlyboi is back at it again with new six tracks mini-album Good Looks, and the release is an instant stunner. The duo’s vocals are either ethereal or snarling, and set against a bed of ambient synths or folk-influenced indie pop. The tracks work in a way that feels like the epitome of understated ny-cool. What’s even more engaging however is the lyrical content of Good Looks: the record positions the listener as a voyeur pulling back the curtains–it weaves raw, honest emotions in a way that feels (maybe even too-) close-to-home for anyone who’s tried their hand at navigating love and the city. Good Looks is at once intimate, and instantly relatable. Listen to the EP streaming below. – Olivia Sisinni
Alt-rockers The Effects, to play DC9 10/14
With fuzzy basslines, bold vocals, and a classic, guitar-driven sound, DC-based The Effects deliver angular alt rock with indie rock vibes. Anthemic, and instantly catchy, the trio’s sound is aggressive but melodic and immediately accesible without being boring. You can check out the band playing DC9 10/14 with Cinemechanica, but in the meantime stream them below.-Olivia Sisinni

NYC’s DJ Jubilee to play BEMF at the Good Room on 11/4
It makes sense that Jubilee would take her name from the X-men member known for shooting pyrotechnics out of her palms. The Brooklyn-based DJ by way of Miami produces explosive mixes that span multiple genres and leave your stereo spitting sparks. On MAGICITY II, Jubilee channels her tropical-city roots, but also manages to pivot between dancehall, R&B, techno, and grime–seamlessly flipping feels and rhythms. Anyway you carve it up, Jubilee is bringing the party and you can expect fireworks. Listen to Jubilee streaming below, or catch her 11/4 at the Good Room with Danny Daze, Jimmy Edgar and Barnt, a show that’s part of the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival. – Olivia Sisinni
Post drone rockers 75 Dollar Bill play Troost 10/23
We are not even sure where to start with a band like 75 Dollar Bill, but after a series of jaw drops, we’re comfortable settling on "brilliant." The NY-based duo of Rick Brown and Che Chen produce gorgeous, winding instrumentals that are not only melodically lush, but rhythmicaly intricate and driving. Lead by a quarter-tone guitar, the band’s music draws from a distinctive North African influence, but their sound is as expansive as it is downright nuts. Stacking layers and layers of instrumentation as diverse as viola drones and bari sax licks, 75 Dollar Bill lands firmly in devilishly intriguing territory. Do yourself a favor and stream them below, or better yet, catch them live at Troost 10/23.-Olivia Sisinni
Kellen of Troy’s latest single + music video for “So You Found Yourself A Rockstar”
Nashville has a new indie-pop tune on its hands. But not just any indie-pop tune. Kellen of Troy‘s latest single, So You Found Yourself A Rockstar, speaks out for men who find themselves in a tough spot when their girlfriends turn out to be materialistic, money-grubbing women who leave them for men with a cooler, higher "status" — rockstars! Notwithstanding the heart breaking topic, Kellen Wenrich’s nonchalant vocals express a calm acceptance, and his lively music video does too. Throughout the entire video, the camera pans around the room, introducing new people as they play instruments, chat about, and have a grand ol’ time. Meanwhile, Kellen spontaneously appears in and out of each corner singing his tune. Everyone gets it: some people only care about one thing, so why not just let it go and party? Check out the video for "So You Found Yourself A Rockstar" down below. – Ashley Muniz
Mountainwalker brings genre bending folk to Acme Feed & Seed on 10/11
Combining trippy, layered back beats with smooth vocal hooks, Mountainwalker is a genre-bending folk musician whose rich lyricism has us totally hooked. Utilizing complex rhyme schemes and elements from psych and indie rock the Nashville-based artist’s musical approach is unique if not a little unorthodox. Either way, we’re major fans. Check out Mountainwalker at the Acme Feed & Seed 10/11 alongside The Medium and Devon Gilfillian and listen to "What You Got" off his latest release Parlor Songs streaming below.-Olivia Sisinni

With driving, meaty licks and visceral vocal performances, Baltimore-based Multicult is all you could ever want out of your local noise rock band. Stream Multicult below, and be sure to check them out at the Windup Space 10/28 with Puerto Rico Flowers and the Holy Circle.-Olivia Sisinni
Premiere: Crushed Out’s latest music video “Out of the Blue”
NYC-based husband/wife team, Crushed Out, is back at it again, and The Deli is thrilled to premiere the duo’s newest music video, "Out of the Blue." The video spotlights the band’s super fun, assuredly trippy aesthetic, and the tune alternates heavy, bluesy riffs with the group’s signature surf rock hooks–making "Out of the Blue" feel ambiguous in decade, but instantly infectious. Check out the premiere of "Out of the Blue" below, and if you’re hungry for more, listen to Crush Out’s soundcloud here.-Olivia Sisinni
Luray brings ambient-banjo-indie to Hardywood Craft Brewery 10/14
Ambient, banjo-lead indie rock is a descriptor that’s sure to turn heads, but Luray, a band who fails to fit neatly into the hard lines of "alt-folk," really does encompass all of those elements. Pairing synths with traditional folk, the Richmond VA-based group gives bluegrass/americana a fresh face, successfully blending old with new. Listen to Luray streaming below, and check them out at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery with Camp Howard and Mikrowaves on 10/14.-Olivia Sisinni
Ghost of Jupiter to release new album 10/21 at Lizard Lounge
MA-based Ghosts of Jupiter blend beautifully etheral vocals with swirling guitars and strong synths to creating a powerful psychedellic potion. The band, who are set to drop a new album this month, effortlessly span a liminal time place–sounding distinctively like a vintage record store pickup, without falling into psych-band tropes that are long tired out. Check out Ghosts of Jupiter 10/23 at the Lizard Lounge to pick up a copy of their latest release, The Great Bright Horses, but in the meantime you can stream their first single off the album below.-Olivia Sisinni
