Bianca Muñiz is a NYC songwriter that has just released her new EP, “Scary Dreams” and a music video which artfully projects the eerie title track. In this video we observe Bianca in the midst of her nightmare, tossing and turning restlessly, while dreaming of running down a lonesome path consumed by darkness. Tense, at times dissonant jazzy and noise-rock elements, and unpredictable, nervous rhythms swallow the dulcet tone of Bianca’s voice, which bellows in the chorus and simmers down into a low, fearful croak at its end. If you enjoy the thrill, come down to Brooklyn’s Terra Firma on Friday, December 2nd and experience Bianca live. – Ashley Muniz
Blond Ambition’s new video for “Shasta” + debut album coming soon
LA’s Blond Ambition, the solo project of Brian Harding from Ex Cops, is taking us back to the warm summer sun with his new video for “Shasta”. Brian’s nonchalant vocals and funky psychedelic groove perfectly matches the clips of happy beach goers soaking in the sun, skaters trying out slick moves, and surfers getting ready to take on the waves, all with a neat vintage film aesthetic. Look out for Blond Ambition’s debut album in spring 2017. – Ashley Muniz
Saint Marilyn releases single “Frustrate Me” + plays Mercury Lounge on 11.15
Last month, Brooklyn’s Saint Marilyn released an enthralling synthy single called “Frustrate Me”. Its freely pitch bending synths seems to mimic the unavoidable flux and flow of emotions in a relationship: one second you can’t stand the sight of him, the next you can’t stand to see him go. The soft, seductive vocals of Che Houston layer over this dreamy synth bed to create a slow-moving atmosphere of love and hate. Experience the emotional ride live at The Mercury Lounge on November 15. -Ashley Muniz
Summer Underground vs. post 2016 election alienation
NYC duo Summer Underground released their endearing full-length album More Than a Friend, Less Than a Lover over the past summer, but their music feels appropriately therapeutic in these strange days of November, when many of us are wondering if their neighbors have any human feelings. Single "Back to Chicago" is a charming track that embodies the power of simplicity and its potential to stir up emotion. Through their poetic and intimate lyrics, Chrissy Sandman and Grant Carey’s delicate, harmonized vocals evoke the image of a couple experiencing nostalgic thoughts about one another. The minimalistic, folky, electric background serves the song well, unifying the track with a sense of calm, comfort, a tinge of longing, and a very much needed hint of hope. Vorhees brings her atmospheric compositions to Baby’s All Right 11.11
Mysterious, captivating, frightening, and beautiful all at once, Vorhees‘ experimental compositions cross the boundaries of pop and electronica. "Are We a Fossil, and of Facings" is an ongoing melodic movement with heavily processed guitars and luscious keyboard flourishes that swirl and fade in a wide sonic atmosphere—a truly intriguing aural journey. ‘The Way I Feel inside’ is a Zombies cover and her only structured and melodic song, with ambient, goth and orchestral elements. Listen to it below and in person at Baby’s All Right on November 11. – Ashley Muniz
Future Generations release debut album, play Baby’s All Right 11.14
After releasing their debut, self-titled album under local label Frenchkiss, on November 14, NYC’s Future Generations will be bringing their vaguely epic indie pop to Baby’s All Right. Off their record, single "Thunder In The City" presents a sonic landscape that intertwines a feel-good upbeat mood with a melancholic ambience, reminiscent of bands like Two Door Cinema Club and Passion Pit. The dream-like, faded vocal presence, combined with sorrowful abstract lyrical content, creates an overall atmosphere of both sadness and relief. Take a listen down below and also check out the video for their breakout single ‘Stars‘. – Ashley Muniz
denitia and sene to release ‘love and noir’ LP at Mercury Lounge on 11/18
Back in 2013, when they released their his and hers LP, denitia and sene was one of The Deli’s most written about artists (heck, we even booked them at our 2013 electronic CMJ stage!). We simply couldn’t get enough of the singer/producer pair’s obscure yet very poiginant electro-RnB. Three years later, the pair is back with a new album titled love and noir, and judging from the two singles, "favourite." and "Open Wide," the record should be as richly textured and spell-binding as the group’s first full length. "Open Wide" has a glitchy, industrial beat with distorted synth glissandos and robotic backup vocals that clash perfectly with denitia’s pristine vocals. With "Favourite," on the other hand, less is truly more. Denitia’s vocals and lovesick lyrics carry the track, occasionally aided by a horn blast and modulated synths. It’s a song of few elements, sure, but each is crafted, curated and utilised to its fullest extent. Catch the duo live at Mercury Lounge on 11/18 for their release party. — Henry Solotaroff-Webber
Topaz Jones drops new album releases trippy video for “Motion Sickness”
Hailing out of Northern NJ’s underrated hip hop scene, Topaz Jones is equipped with a sound that’s catchy and all his own. His latest record Arcade is aptly named: it’s a joy to listen to, showcasing bright, flashy production and Jones’ own suave mix of rapping and soul. Following his recent release, Jones just dropped a music video for standout track, "Motion Sickness," where he serenades while basked in vibrant light colors, donned in eccentric high fashion and at one point tethered to ballons Pixar’s "Up"-style. It’s a surreal video that highlights Jones’ unique ability to get bodies moving and minds thinking at the same time. Definitely an artist to watch. — Henry Solotaroff-Webber

NYC jazz-soul quartet Vinegar Mother releases new video, plays The Knitting Factory on 11/8
Ah fall. Whether it’s the poignancy of witnessing a life cycle coming to an end, or simply an evolutionary response to cooling temperatures, the autumnal season always seems to evoke appreciation for one’s cuddle buddy, or frustation at the lack of one. If you’re in the second group, have no fear: jazzy soul outfit, Vinegar Mother is ready to offer their sympathy with their new music video for the title track off their ‘Sunny Seat’ EP, due out 11/18. The song begins with fluid percussion, a chilled electric piano and Julia Zivic’s jazzy lead vocals. At first she sings in depressed sighs, but as her frustration mounts toward an un-special someone, her voice grows more tense – and her psyche more unstable. Echoing this, a horn and guitar part are added over the course of the song, giving it an agitated quality in line with the themes of bitter loss expressed in the lyrics. Score your next one with Vinegar Mother’s new track, and check them out live at The Knitting Factory on 11/8. — Henry Solotaroff-Webber
Brooklyn’s Julia Weldon recovers from coma, kickstarts third album
Just as her 2013 album Light Is a Ghost was making its way from ear to ear, Julia Weldon fell in a coma shortly after receiving gender-affirming surgery, while she was working on her third album. Luckily, she recovered, and, since then, this high-powered Brooklynite has been back at it with an audience-supported Kickstarter campaign now up and running to fund the recording and production of her long awaited third release. Honest, intense, joyous, and haunting, Julia is finding inspiration in this near-death experience and we are curious to see how she will integrate them in her new songs. Take part in her journey by joining the Kickstarter campaign and coming to see her perform at Rockwood Music Hall on November 2nd, where she’ll give a sneak peak of her latest compositions. – Ashley Muniz
A Deli NYC Halloween video premiere: Sonya Glass – ‘Flicker’
Sonya Glass’s new video for "Flicker" is the perfect opportunity to get your Halloween off to a spooky start. Well shot and featuring a comprehensible story-line, the video depicts Glass as the vengeful spirit of a haunted house, posessing the souls of all those who enter. Clearly drawing inspiration from horror films and shows like "American Horror Story," Glass and co. do their source material justice. The song matches the quality of the video as well, with Glass’s strong vocals driving the track, which lands in an intriguing noir-Americana territory. For those in the mood for something spooky to get them in the right mindset for tonight’s Halloween party, there’s no need to look any further. — Henry Solotaroff-Webber
