GateKeeper’s Giza

Posted on:

The electronic duo GateKeeper is back with a new six song ep that will be released on December 13th by Merok Records. The ep is called Giza, and is the follow to last years debut Kompakt’s Fright imprint. The duo bends techno, Chicago house, italo-disco and industrial, and rely heavily on synths. On this is ep GateKeeper creates their own world of sound, which seems to have a mythology all of its own. This story is visualized in part in their new video for the track "Chains" from Giza.

California Wives’ Blood Red Youth

Posted on:

If you were holding off on purchasing the debut ep, Affair from California Wives, the band has released a track from the ep that might change your mind. "Blood Red Youth" is a beautifully written pop filled with catchy melodies, and biting lyrics.

The band will be performing at Schubas on December 22nd, but first they will be stopping by Daytrotter to record a session next month.

Boy King Islands on Plustapes

Posted on:

The local cassette only label Plustapes released their latest title this week in the form of the debut album from Boy King Islands, Fall. The duo of Zachary Mastoon and Jason Hunt have been together since the winter of 2003. Musically, Boy King Islands is lo-fi basement rock in its purest form, and their sound lends itself to the cassette format.

Fallis being released in a limited edition of 200 with digital download.

My Gold Mask’s A Million Miles

Posted on:

Next month My Gold Mask will release their new ep A Million Miles (From Where We Were Last), and I final had a chance to listen to the full ep. The release will be a 12" vinyl with download, and will have four track including the band’s cover of "Bette Davis Eyes". The ep kicks of with the thunderous "Ghost In Your Bed". Gretta Rochelle (Vocals, Drums) is so fierce on this entire ep, but it is especially felt on this opening track.

The comparison to Siouxsie Sioux is too easy, but so true. "I Don’t Need A Reason" comes next with its defiance and pounding rhythm. The duo slows it down on "Bobbi", but show a more orchestral ability. The ep closes with the lo-fi and drum heavy cover of "Bette Davis Eyes". The ep is the bands follow-up to January’s A Thousand Voices. You can preorder the album here.
