I Fight Dragons have been hard at work preparing their next release for their label Photo Finish Records. They will be releasing a new EP next month and celebrating the release at The Metro on Saturday, Nov. 27th. We have an early look at the EP with the song "She’s Got Sorcery".
The band will also be live tonight on ustream.tv. They have ustreamed most of the recording process, and will be continuing the fun tonight.
The electronic duo GateKeeper is back with a new six song ep that will be released on December 13th by Merok Records. The ep is called Giza, and is the follow to last years debut Kompakt’s Fright imprint. The duo bends techno, Chicago house, italo-disco and industrial, and rely heavily on synths. On this is ep GateKeeper creates their own world of sound, which seems to have a mythology all of its own. This story is visualized in part in their new video for the track "Chains" from Giza.
If you were holding off on purchasing the debut ep, Affair from California Wives, the band has released a track from the ep that might change your mind. "Blood Red Youth" is a beautifully written pop filled with catchy melodies, and biting lyrics.
The band will be performing at Schubas on December 22nd, but first they will be stopping by Daytrotter to record a session next month.
The local cassette only label Plustapes released their latest title this week in the form of the debut album from Boy King Islands, Fall. The duo of Zachary Mastoon and Jason Hunt have been together since the winter of 2003. Musically, Boy King Islands is lo-fi basement rock in its purest form, and their sound lends itself to the cassette format.
Fallis being released in a limited edition of 200 with digital download.
After releasing their self-titled debut album on August 3rd Secret Colours (Tommy Evans, Dave Stach, Dylan Olson, Justin Frederick, and Margaret Albright) have been buzzing around the web, but have yet to hit the road. Secret Colours will be performing at Mayne Stage (1328 W Morse Ave) this Sunday (10/17) at 8pm.
Andrew Bird and his label Bella Union gave us a sneak peak at his new album Useless Creatures yesterday. "Hot Math" is perfectly Andrew Bird and in that is something special. His new album features nine new tracks and will be released on October 25th.
It’s finally here, and I hope you ordered your free pair of 3D glasses. Travis Barker has released the video for "Jump Down" which features The Cool Kids.
This Friday My My My will be celebrating the release of a new single called War Party. This is a follow-up their latest full-length album Leather Silk which was released back in May.
Since relocating to Chicago, Evan Thomas Weiss has made a lot of friends and a lot of great music as Into It. Over It.. This year he has released three split 7" singles this year with Chicago’s Castevet, Philly’s Everyone Everywhere, and Austin’s Pswingset through Topself Records, and is currently touring the country.
He recently created a video with local artist SteffBomb who is a featured artist at Etsy this month. Evan will be performing at Friendship Fortress (2388 Milwaukee Ave) with his other band Stay Ahead of The Weather this Saturday at 7pm with Former Thieves and Mountain Asleep.
I am not sure who Brenton Labs is or where he or she is located, but I do love the recent remix that was released for the track "Living Decorations" by Maps and Atlases. The original track comes from the band’s most recent release Perch Patchwork (Bursuk).
Next month My Gold Mask will release their new ep A Million Miles (From Where We Were Last), and I final had a chance to listen to the full ep. The release will be a 12" vinyl with download, and will have four track including the band’s cover of "Bette Davis Eyes". The ep kicks of with the thunderous "Ghost In Your Bed". Gretta Rochelle (Vocals, Drums) is so fierce on this entire ep, but it is especially felt on this opening track.
The comparison to Siouxsie Sioux is too easy, but so true. "I Don’t Need A Reason" comes next with its defiance and pounding rhythm. The duo slows it down on "Bobbi", but show a more orchestral ability. The ep closes with the lo-fi and drum heavy cover of "Bette Davis Eyes". The ep is the bands follow-up to January’s A Thousand Voices. You can preorder the album here.
The band will celebrate the release of A Million Miles on November 13th at at Schubas. They are also playing this week (Oct. 13th) in Bloomington, IN at Buskirk-Chumley Theatre with The New Pornographers.
Nathan Xander & Witchouse have released a new 7" single which can be streamed and purchased here. The single contains the smooth and creeping "John Wayne" and "Darkness". There has always been an element of storytelling in Nathan’s that I appreciate and he doesn’t disappoint with these two tracks.
The band is celebrating the release of the single on Oct 16th at Schubas with The Kickback and The Migrant.
