Alt folk artist Cape Francis celebrates debut release at Mercury on 09.22

Posted on:

Cape Francis is the solo-project of Kevin Olken Henthorn and features music that neatly fits into a self-made nexus of indie folk/rock/pop and “post” iterations of each. Cape Francis is able to oscillate between slow, melancholic elegies for what is lost (“Iditarod”) and heart-felt indie anthems (“5 in the Morning”). Regardless of presentation, Cape Francis skillfully evokes Northeastern wistful angst. His debut album “Falling into Pieces” is out September 22nd, and NYC’s Mercury Lounge will be hosting the release show on September 29th. – Amanda Ogea

Bootblacks’ LP “Fragments” Debuts 09.14

Posted on:

Bootblacks offer a gothic melancholia bounced back and forth on synth-pop beats, a menacing vision of gloom that’s infectious. Bootblacks’ post-punk/new-wave sensibility is beautifully paired with Panther Macdonald’s vocals. They’re straight out of the post-punk catalogue: romantic, dramatic, seductive. The band promises a seedier vision of NYC, one of decadence and decay. Their newest work offers a more sophisticated sonic aesthetic, so make sure to check out their new album “Fragments” from (appropriately named, for this release) Manic Depression Records, available 09.14. —Amanda Ogea

Max Pain and the Groovies bring Psych Rock to Berlin on 09.14

Posted on:

Music is being transported somewhere, hopefully, a good place. For some, that might be the spot where you hang with your friends, drinking cold, cheap beer and pretending to intellectualize your way through a not so hot summer. That’s exactly where NYC via Salt Lake City Max Pain and the Groovies takes us. This is ’60s inspired psych rock at its best, youthful and unafraid. Groovy, indeed. The band’s waves of cosmic guitars and greasy vocals will surround you like an old ash tray. Let them, and don’t miss their upcoming performance at Berlin on 09.14. – Amanda Ogea

Parrot Dream bring Chile flavored dream pop to Brooklyn Bazaar, 09.14

Posted on:

Parrot Dream’s discography showcases the gradual development of their dream-pop aesthetic, which features a peculiar Latin twist (the band is originally from Chile).

In their song "On Your Own," Parrot Dream teases the listener into an all-too-familiar melancholy before jumping in with a groovy bass line and electrifying hi-hat, reminiscent of the Chilean disco scene.

Make sure to partake in the experience at the Brooklyn Bazaar on 09.14 alongside our other featured bands, Triathalon and Mons Vi. —Amanda Ogea

Ninjasonik brings electro-hip-hop to Brooklyn Bazaar, 09.03

Posted on:

Ninjasonik is one of those rare musical "variety packs" that actually work. Pressing play is grabbing out of the hat, bringing surprising variations of hip hop, punk, pop. Their experimentation is defiant but, most importantly, it’s fun.

The duo’s flows offer meta-reflections of the genres they borrow from, adding a surprisingly intellectual element to their catchy beats, their particular brand of non-conformity offers a unique energy. Make sure to soak it up at their upcoming show at the Brooklyn Bazaar on 09.03. —Amanda Ogea
