Deli Covergirl Brittany Campbell drops new single and video

Posted on:

Brittany Campbell continues her electric pop diva reign of NYC with her new single and video “Buzz.” Just in time for cuddle weather, this sex-infused ode to altered states of consciousness seems designed to bring you closer to someone either on the dancefloor or between the sheets. Don’t get it twisted, though, Brittany is a fan of wordplay and the double entendres run wild in this song. From the diamonds in her eyes to the “buzz” of love/drugs/fame, we’ve all got a need to fulfill. Let Brittany Campbell bring you closer. – BrokeMc

Q&A with Nervous Dater, live at Cake Shop on 10.02

Posted on:

There’s a trope about the city that it’s miserable to find love, so it makes sense that a few out-of-state-ers who wound up living in NYC would be nervous about dating. Fortunately for us, four-piece group, Nervous Dater, is anything but shy about their music abilities. The band combines a fun, driving, pop-punk aesthetic with windy, math-rock tinged guitar licks, and sets it against singer/guitarist Rachel Lightner’s clear, laid-back vocals. There’s also something delightfully relatable and real about the band’s lyricism, and their anthemic approach to songwriting gives the band an instant draw. Nervous Dater was kind enough to talk to the Deli about their origins, their latest EP, and of course, what gear they’re currently going crazy over – see links below. Nervous Dater plays the Cake Shop on October 2nd! – Olivia Sisinni

Cruel Youth unveils video for ‘Diamond Days,’ tours the US in November

Posted on:

NYC soul artist Teddy Sinclair seems to have found her voice in new project Cruel Youth, which marries her expressive and confident alto with an edgy and trippy electronic production. New single/video "Diamond Days" is a soaring ballad that manages to reference at once the Beach Boys’ orchestral Pet Sounds arrangements and the mellotron in The Beatles’ Strawberry Fields Forever, while gradually transporting the listener towards a lofty pop chorus. Don’t miss the lady’s live show at Music Hall of Williamsburg on November 21, part of her upcoming US tour to promote debut album ‘+30mg.’

Aircrafting releases debut LP ‘Dreamers’ at Union Pool on 10.9

Posted on:

From the deepest depths of Brooklyn, Americana quintet Aircrafting is getting ready to begin their musical adventure with their self-produced album Dreamers, scheduled to be released on October 7th via cassette label Sinking Spaceship Recordings. Their preview single/video ‘Tides" (streaming) offers a steady sound that transitions midway into a flurry of energy, adding layer upon layer of every taste of tone one could desire from a guitar, while Jon Tehel’s alto provides a signature sound to the band, with an attitude that’s at once casual and intimate. Aircrafting will celebrate the relase of Dreamers on October 9th at Union Pool. – Ashley Muniz

Hypoluxo releases debut album ‘If Language’ + plays Our Wicked Lady on 10.07

Posted on:

If you love musical paradoxes (and indie pop) we recommend you to check out Brooklyn quartet Hypoluxo, a band that combines a rather serene dream pop with crepuscular and monotone male vocals. The dichotomy actually works: the tracks’ harmonic content is rich enough to entertain the ear, while Ocampo’s dark tenor, appearing only occasionally, adds a layer of maudit character that true rock fans will find appealing. If you like the RIYL game, here it is: Real Estate, Joy Division, Lloyd Cole and the Commotion. The band will be releasing debut album ‘If Language‘ on September 30th, playing Our Wicked Lady on October 7th, and then leaving for a truly insane 40+ day fall tour which should be named "the clockwise tour of the US of A." Way to go Hypoluxo, safe trips!

The Shacks about to release debut EP, play BKLYN Bazaar on 09.29

Posted on:

Should you be in need of a magical something that can lull you to sleep during your stressful life in the city, look no further than Brooklyn’s The Shacks and their first official single "Left It With The Moon." The song employs a timeless melody, Shannon Wise’s delicate soprano, and a few other rather rudimental instruments to reach into the listener’s buried childhood – and the sleeping proneness it entails: if sleeping like a baby is your ida of happiness, The Shacks are your kind of band. Earlier this year, the duo also unveiled a collaboration with instrumental NYC band El Michels Affair, which resulted in stunning single ‘Strange Boy,’ a more produced dream pop gem with shades of doo-wop complemented by an appropriately noir video (also streaming). Their self titled debut EP is scheduled to be released on October 28. Don’t miss their Brooklyn Bazaar show on September 29!

Jay Pray’s Chillwave is as chilled as it gets!

Posted on:

If the very NYC "Chillwave" phenomenon still exist, the musical output of Brooklyn via Connecticut electronic artist Jay Pray definitely belongs to it, even just for the fact that the guy has one of the most chilled and gentle voices we’ve stumbled upon in a while. His most popular single "I’d go anywhere" (streaming) blends dancey soul pop verses a la’ Hall & Oates with fuller choruses flirting with electronica. The other single available for streaming, ‘Smile,’ is even more chilled, exuding positivity and hope, as if it was srping all over again! Look out for a debut release scheduled for late October!

Soccer Mommy moves to NYC, plays Silent Barn on 10.02

Posted on:

Straddling the line between Suzanne Vega’s intellectual but vulnerable songwriting and Belly’s dreamy pop melodicism, Soccer Mommy, the project of songwriter Sophie Allison, recently relocated from Nashville to NYC. Since 2015, the young lady has released three strictly self-produced EPs (two of them are called ‘songs of my bedroom’) and one full length album entitled ‘for young hearts.’ Single and opening track ‘Henry’ (streaming below) shines for its imaginative lyrics, with Sophie trying to guess a loved boy’s thoughts and feelings, accompanied by a heart wrenching melody. NYC ‘young hearts’ shouldn’t miss her show at the Silent Barn on 10.02

Breanna Barbara brings her folkedelic blues rock to Sunnyvale on 10.27

Posted on:

With her third release Mirage Dreams, Brooklyn-based (via Minnesota and Florida) Breanna Barbara has put out an uber confident record that defies time and space. Her peculiar blend of blues, folk, and psychedelia transports us to the west coast in the summer of 1968. Yet, the word revival sounds reductive here: behind the familiar overdriven organs, twangy guitars, and expanded jams, live rare intensity and power. The album title track (streaming below) perfectly examplifies this artist’s – quite literally – howling fervor. Don’t miss your chance to see her live at Sunnyvale on October 27, where she’ll bring her tales of melancholy dreams, delusions, and demons.

Ziemba founds label, release “LALA” single, tours Europe

Posted on:

We were among the first blogs to draw attention towards NYC’s Ziemba bravely decadent atmospheres and simple but stylish visuals. We are glad to report that the young lady has been keeping at it: Concept EP ‘LALA’ (produced by Jeremiah Meece, streaming below) is the first official release on Ardis Multiverse, the artist’s new multisensory imprint, and reflects a musical departure for Ziemba, compared to recent LP Hope is Never. In a setting that’s as dark, but more consistently electronic, Ziemba tells the story of "a succubus […] who lives in a cave and sequesters herself to protect the world from her capacity for destruction." Ziemba also announced a fall European tour. Recommended for those who miss Nico. – photo by Ben Grad.

Vivienne Eastwood announces new EP, plays Night of Joy on 10.06

Posted on:

Modifying the brand name of an iconic British fashion designer largely responsible for bringing modern punk and new wave fashions into the mainstream, Vivienne Eastwood is luckily more focused on sound than looks. This week they released brand new material from a new upcoming EP with single “Messy,” which explores slow-motion ambient landscapes that ebb and flow without any percussive beats. With densely layered fuzzed-out guitars leading the way, Loveless-era My Bloody Valentine and much of Slowdive’s catalog immediately come to mind. Like many of the tunes by those classic gazey bands, the track reveals more nuance with repeated listens. There is a driving bass line embedded within, along with silvery jingling around the sonic edges. Vocals come in backward masking waves, swirling up in the mix as if taking in a huge breath of air. The combined effect is both enchanting and mesmerizing. The band will host a release party on Thursday October 6 at Night Of Joy in Brooklyn where they will be DJing from 10pm on and play the EP in its entirety. – Dave Cromwell
