High Places‘ new video features shots of ant colonies crawling around, translucent people and the trippiest pool party ever to accompany their soaring electronic sounds of single "Altos Lugares." Literall the Spanish translation of the band name, "Altos Lugares" is a droning electronic beat with disembodied voices looping over and over again. It’s repetitive but always changing, pulling the listener into a sort of trance. The single comes off their upcoming album Original Colors out October 11 on Thrill Jockey. The release will include a bonus CD with two extended album songs and an exclusive track. They’ll be busy touring Europe this fall, but hopefully they’ll grace the west coast with their presence soon. In the meantime, enjoy the video and pick up the album next month. – Taylor Lampela

Glass Lamborghini is the project of Brooklyn artists Admiral Grey and Thermos Unigarde. Their EP Golden Elegance was recorded by Champagne Sequins at the now-defunct Brooklyn trailer park Bushwick Project for the Arts and the EP was released this spring following nearly two straight years of live performance. This fall Admiral Grey performs new, amped-up arrangements of Glass Lamborghini songs on the west coast before returning back east with her solo project I Feel Awesome and will join Thermos in some shows in NYC with her new project, Snaykehunt. Playing a shoegazer-influenced style they call "Nüdisco", Vltrarock and Echo Deco of the New York and Philadelphia based band Mahogany present a decade of recorded work as evidence. On "One Plus One Equals Three Or More" (one of our favorite songs) an angular bass line drives forward the momentum, as high-hat and snare-heavy percussions rattle along. Distant atmospherics soon work their way into the mix, as do handclaps and quickly strummed high-pitched guitars. The sum effect is one of a hyper funkiness. Vocals are delivered in a mostly male only or blended male-female tandem. "The View From The People Wall" continues the hyper-funk bass guitar with cymbal-emphasized percussion pattern, but features female vocals out front, while "Supervitesse" (embedded video) marshalls the formidable power of Cocteau Twins legend Robin Guthrie on the production chair for a predictably shimmering mix. – Mahogany will be performing at The Deli’s Dream Pop CMJ stage at The Delancey on Tuesday 10.18 with Exitmusic, Ohnomoon and Spanish Prisoners. – Dave Cromwell

Composed by a beauty and 3 monsters (at least judging from this picture), San Francisco band The Symbolick Jews recently submitted their record digitally to the Deli here, and we have been having some fun with it. Unapologetically but creatively punk, these guys’ songs revive a genre that too often sounds formulaic. Check out this crazy song from their album "Slave to Love", and if you like it go check them out live at Kimo’s on September 27. I should be fun.

Currently overseas playing European festivals and headlining shows, EMA (aka Erika Anderson of the recently broken up band Gowns) will return to the US in October for a month-long run of dates supporting Wild Beasts on the west coast from October 7th-13th and then CSS and MEN on the east coast and in the south from October 21st-30th. She also just premiered this video on Pitchfork.

On a residential block of East Third Street, there’s a small yellow guitar that marks the entrance to Cobra Guitars. This inconspicuous dwelling serves as the workshop of Caveman guitarist Jimmy Carbonetti and the band’s unofficial clubhouse. Down the cement stairs and through the unmarked door, visitors will first encounter Carbonetti’s handcrafted guitars hung carefully on the wall, tangles of wires, amps, stacks of vinyl, a vintage-styled couch and a laptop set up in the corner a working musician’s paradise. In the back, there’s an assortment of guitar parts strewn about that will be used to build a dream instrument. Whether it’s Carbonetti, keyboardist Sam Hopkins and guitar technician Mas Hino working on guitars or a rotating cast of peers dropping in to hang out or jam, the basement space in the East Village is always humming with activity. – Read the rest of Nancy Chow’s feature on Caveman here. – Caveman will play The Deli’s CMJ show at Pianos on Thursday 10.20.

The Hollows are a 5-piece band from Brooklyn who specialize in the multi-part harmony, instrument-swapping, kitchen sink approach to roots rock – they sometime call it "rootsabilly". Formed in 2009, the group has developed a solid local following, mostly because of their energetic live shows, which despite lacking a drummer keep the audience’s toes tapping nonstop. The band recently released their debut album "Belong to the Land" and will participate to this year’s CMJ Music Marathon with a show at Hiro Ballroom on Saturday October 22. – Read Ben Krieger Q&A with the band here.

The movement commonly known as "Trip Hop" produced some of the best records of the 90s, but it never managed to produce new artists whose output kept up with the outstanding quality of those early records. Fronted by soulful singer Jolanda Porter, NYC band Wishes and Thieves create music which follows on the steps of the genre’s fathers and mothers, with a slightly more alt-pop approach, and have been compared to the likes of Portishead and Sneaker Pimps for their edgy, electronic female vocal-driven sound. The band released their debut EP, "Lighthouse" this summer and will be releasing their second EP this fall. You can see them live at Rockwood Music Hall on 09.30.

Party punk rockers Japanther will hit the stage at The Bowery Electric on Monday September 26th. The group has made a name for themselves by being truly incredible performance artists. They’ve performed in bedrooms, on street corners, on moving trucks, and on top of bridges. They’ve played alongside synchronized swimmers and giant puppets. Most of all, they play an exciting brand of loud punk rock and love to blur the line between performer and audience. They’ll be supported by DJ Dirty Fingers.
