Consistently throbbing basslines, vamping spacey synth, vocals filtered through the fog, and a grounding stampede of percussion, the trio of Janelle, opening tonight at Bourbon & Branch, mesh punk assertiveness with a cosmic shoegazing exploration. The byproduct is a ruminating calm with a heavier foundational bite. All systems are a go, and the music is rapidly gathering steam; however, even as the pressure rises, the band doesn’t break a sweat. A pair of FDH labelmates will be joining Janelle. The battleship of intensity that SGNLS unleashes is fueled via synth, searing shards of guitars and constant churning backend. Currently residing in Nebraska, the expanded synth-punk quintet of Digital Leather (whose new LP All Faded is due out on June 23 via FDH) headline the evening, delivering rapid-paced danceable jams.
