Weekend Warrior, December 20 – 22

Locals Restorations open for one of the aughts’ most popular emo groups The Early November at Union Transfer this Saturday night. Their record simply titled LP2 released last April delivers spirited anthems saddled by shining guitars and a sense of urgency conveyed through Jon Loudon’s guttural voice, giving their songs an epic feel. With a pop-punk foundation, their sound builds complexity with elements of shoegaze, post-punk, psych-rock and noise. Weaving urban existentialist lyrical narratives, themes emerge like the superficiality of competition and the struggle against complacency – but despite these frustrations, there is an underlying hopefulness. They’ll be joined by Little Big League, who will be laying down acute, well-crafted, indie guitar rock. Their record These Are Good People, which came out this past August, is a perfect winter album brimming with nostalgia and brooding. Michelle Zauner’s voice is both familiar and unique, inviting the listener into a deeply personal world of driving along the highways of New England and getting entangled in messy relationships, with an edge toward the stark and sensual.
