Tropical Jinx, the beautifully crafted new album by Little Big League, was conceived during a time when singer/guitarist Michelle Zauner was coming to grips with her parents struggles through their marriage – a partners infidelity, sexual issues, and then some. While the collection’s lyrical content is inspired by familial struggles and lost childhood, the instrumental backdrop is vibrant indie music at its finest, and the combination is very worthy of the celebration that will ensue at Johnny Brenda’s tonight. Sadly, the show is somewhat bittersweet as the band will be taking a bit of a hiatus after tonight so Michelle can move back to Oregon for a while to support her father after her mother passed away due to cancer. So this evening will be a good opportunity to show your support by relishing in the good times. Since Jesse Radlow and Asher Brooks of Tutlie played a supporting role in the creation of Tropical Jinx, it’s fitting for them to take part in the celebration. And they’ll be joined by alt-shoegazers The Spirit of the Beehive and New York’s LVL UP. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $10, 21+ (Photo by Kara Milstein) – Bill McThrill
