Underground Arts hosts a whole afternoon of music in honor of the Annie Rivera Scholarship Fund today. This scholarship provides financial aid to top undocumented students who achieved Deferred Action Citizen status to attend college at a major university. There will be a silent auction that will have restaurant gift cards, salon services, artwork from local artists, and more as prizes. And there will be a special concert that features three up-and-coming local acts. Despite still being relatively new to the scene, the femme fatales of Cayetana have been comfortably finding their place as another talented, buzzworthy Philly act with an old school indie grrrl band sound that channels memories of Sleater-Kinney on their bold debut full-length Nervous Like Me. For the past few years, TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb have been mainstays and ambassadors to the local music scene. And whether they channel a drunk Tom Waits or deliver original songs from a powerful album like KONG, they do so with a blues-tinged folk-rock punch.
