Creepoid are gearing up to play a serious amount of shows at SXSW where they will be opening up for some big names and probably building their current buzz to a national size. It would come as little surprise to see their name show up in a ton of blogs during SXSW frenzy. Hopefully, it will be for their brooding, fuzzy, slow burners like personal standout “See-Through” that sounds like Sparklehorse’s grungy younger brother, and not their punk antics that made their last show impossible to look away from in a car crash sort of way. Tonight they are revving their engines and ironing out their stage banter with a show at Johnny Brenda’s in what will be a send off of the SS Creepoid of sorts. If you haven’t already picked up their debut LP Horse Heaven, do so now and thank us later. They have some nice fresh vinyls waiting to be spun, and you can grab your digital copy too here. Creepoid will be opening up for Merge artists The Love Language, who create refreshing folk-pop, and fellow label mates Telekinesis, whose upbeat indie stylings are extremely catchy without being saccharine sweet. Overall, it is a pretty sweet lineup and perfect way to spend a Friday night. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $12, 21+ – Adam G.
