The Dark Wave revival is upon us. Revamped by pioneers like Give Up the Ghost’s former front man Wesley Eisold, the synth drenched hums of Eisold’s latest act, Cold Cave, renders summer nights decadently retro with a hint a gloom. With the recent release of Cold Cave’s second LP Cherish the Light Years via Matador, Eisold’s moody lyricism brings to mind Ian Curtis’ diction, Depeche Mode’s New Wave genius, and Bauhaus’ ultra-goth element of cool. From the cheerful buzz of “Life Magazine” to the pulsating glitz of “Confetti,” Cold Cave’s appeal lies partially on Eisold’s knack for crafting seductively dark backbeats you can feel and won’t forget. Premised by flawless octaves and provocative chants by Austra, tonight’s final installment of Making Time for the summer is slated to be epically rad.
