There’s something about youthful defiance I cannot resist. Not that Young Statues is particularly rebellious but the bi-state outfit’s brand of whimsically angsty and foolishly idealistic indie rock recalls moments of drowsy dreaminess and carefree abandon that I can’t help but become nostaglic about the high school years of yore. Their self-titled debut, which drops November 8 on Run For Cover Records, is saturated with that feeling of the sweethearts’ breakup–the block in time where all that young love has washed into teary-eyed depression and creativity. And since winter is coming, it may be wise for you to relive your youth in Johnny Brenda’s warmth, where Young Statues will open for Now, Now and Mansions. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N.
