Arches Opening for Cloud Nothings at JB’s Nov. 11

The band Arches are known for their contemplative, spacious recordings soaked with reverb. However, their live performances have morphed into an animal possessing quite different characteristics. You still have the well-written, introspective songs that are just right for some quality time alone as well as with someone you care about, but with the addition of bassist Cristian Adams and drummer Kevin Kearney on stage, college pals Tom Herman Jr. and Julien Rossow-Greenberg’s dreamy tunes are injected with bursts of energy that bring you back to reality to enjoy life in the moment. The band has recently returned from the road. Expect to hear some welcomed new tunes from the local four-piece. New Jersey’s It’s A King Thing, whose release Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo was hailed by PopMatters as one of the best indie pop/rock albums of 2010, will be kicking off the evening. Both bands will be warming up the crowd tonight at Johnny Brenda’s for Cleveland’s Cloud Nothings with their highly-praised catchy, youthful indie rock tunes. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $10, 21+ – H.M. Kauffman
