Tonight will be a homecoming of sorts for the electro duo RYAT, who have been spending lots of time touring and on the left coast (hanging with Flying Lotus) over the past year. The project began as a solo effort for enigmatic multi-instrumentalist and front woman Christina McGeehan (a.k.a. Ryat). She joined forces with another electronic cohort Tim Conley (whose solo project Mast has been tacked on to open the evening) in 2009 and they have been making dense, corporeal electronic suits since. Their run includes last year’s album Avant Gold that found them a bunch of buzz and some notable fans. Also performing on the bill is Buffalo Stance. This quirk-pop project from Man Man’s Jamey Robinson brings a sweeter, less primal version of his bandmate’s signature oddball sensibilities with simplistic catchy grooves. Further reason to come to this show is the impressive work of South Philly producer/mc/multi-instrumentalist Lushlife (a.k.a Rajesh Haldar). His production style fits right in with refreshing newcomers like Balam Acab and Clams Casino, but he also creates pretty radio-friendly cuts as well. He’ll most likely be one of those people that you want to see at KFN just so five years down the line you can say that you did. There is not much going on in the city this weekend, but even if there was, this would be at the top of our list so count yourself lucky and get out to this show! Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $8, 21+ – Adam G.
