Philly composer Michael Kiley has released a downloadable iPhone app entitled The Empty Air: A Rittenhouse Square Sound Walk.
“The Empty Air is the first in what we hope will be a series of Sound Walks, combining music, environmental sound and mobile technology for an immersive music experience… Your location will trigger different elements of the music – from melodies inspired by church bells to the rhythms of footsteps and traffic. Step into the center of the park and the entirety of The Empty Air will surround you.”
The music was written and conceived by Kiley, who performed it with Eliza Jones (The Mural and The Mint, Buried Beds), Chris Ward (Pattern is Movement, and Matt Ricchini (Arc in Round), which was recorded at Miner Street Studios by Jon Low. There will be an opening party for the app that was developed by P’unk Ave. tomorrow night (from 8pm – 11pm) at the Rittenhouse Tavern in the Philadelphia Art Alliance. It’s a FREE event that will feature a performance by The Mural and The Mint with snacks and a cash bar.
