The Fantastical World of Buried Beds at JB’s Aug. 29

Within the next few weeks, the weather will change, schools will open, and summer will bow to fall. Knowing this may create the need to run far, far away. But there is another way to escape without resorting to exercise: Delve into the fantastical world of Buried Beds. Taking inspiration from childhood fairy tales, the group weaves these stories into song, peppering them throughout each track. Lead vocalist Eliza Jones tells such tales with striking balance and clarity. Her voice, accompanied by the rise and fall of varied instruments, drives the narrative forward. The music of each song takes on a new chapter, drawing on different instruments for the most accurate illustration. The band’s upcoming album will continue to embrace fantasy, digging even deeper into folk tales of old. Titled In Spirit, the LP doesn’t come out until September 24 via Devinyl Records, but this evening’s live appearance at Johnny Brenda’s should help to ease your craving. Headlining the bill is LA artist Chris Cohen and his contemplative take on soft rock. At times, his vocals take second stage to the music; however, his lyrics still resonate. Also set to open the night will be Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s Alec Ounsworth. While summer comes to its inescapable end, take solace in some fine tunes ready to carry you into the fall. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., $10, 9pm, 21+ – Shaylin O’Connell
