As Batty kicks off a rather intriguing evening at Johnny Brenda’s, the collective sound manifested by the trio is full of promise. There is a skuzzy-grimy garage/punk feel, the kind that drips sweat and oozes with an internal energy that pushes its way public through the performance. Setting the tone with raunchy jagged guitar work and solidifying it with the snap and pop backend and vocals that are a smooth, calm, guiding element, while remaining aggressive when the moment calls for it. This group finds a balance between expansive, stormy expression and jumpstarting quick-hitters that flash. They will be opening for Western Massachusetts all-girl post-punk outfit Potty Mouth, while the cosmic noise-pop of Bleeding Rainbow with their supreme blend of stacked industrial distortion and soothsaying vocals headline the show.
