It’s common knowledge that to really make it as a songwriter in Nashville, you have to write at least one good song about a train. Alex Vucelich is more than satisfying that prerequisite with his lastest single, "Johnson City."
Although a bit softer and more refined than his previous releases, and certainly his live show, the song carries the signature cadence and magnetism Vucelich has become known for. Lines like "Cause it’s gettin’ hard for a man to stand with all these years of debt on his back./ So to hell with you, and to hell with regret and to hell with The Cumberland Gap" are intimate and hard-hitting. Pair charismatic lyricism with low boiled musicianship and one heck of a harmonica solo, and you’ve got yourself a smart blend of classic Americana that’s a little rough around the edges, in a great way.
