Weekend Warrior, September 16 – 18

I love getting to see talented artists for free! Now, nothing is ever really, truly for free with corporate-sponsored events, but I’m cool with giving up my junk email (you know you have one) for a day of performances by gifted, homegrown Philly acts. This Saturday afternoon at The Piazza at Schmidt’s Commons, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey has recruited local up-and-comers Tunji Ige, GoGo Morrow, and Anthony Somebody (of Quite Hype) for a block party to celebrate our city’s neighborhoods. And though she no longer lives here in the City of Brotherly Love, I have definitely mad love for Santigold, who is (in my humble opinion) one of the most underrated contemporary artists of our time. If you’ve never experienced her live, then do yourself a favor and make sure to make it happen. Santigold effortlessly destroys (like it ain’t no thang) every time she hits the stage. Masterfully combining music, visual art and choreographed dance, in a way that would certainly impress my spirit animal, David Byrne, I always feel like the happiest/baddest motherfucker alive each time I walk/dance out her show! That’s why I make it a point to never miss her when she’s in town, and you shouldn’t either. The Piazza at Schmidt’s Commons, 1001 N. 2nd St. #21, 2pm-7pm, Free +1 (w/RSVP), 21+ – Q.D. Tran
