At the beginning of Ditches’ "Setting In," a noisy squall foretells a feeling of impending dread. It quickly swerves our expectations with a dusky, sunlit ballad, where main songwriter Tim Donnelly’s lazy croon dances against a plinky piano lead until it settles into an aching, slow-burning ending. The noise faintly comes back as it concludes, which only turns up the intrigue for what’s yet to come.
"Setting In" is taken from Donnelly’s upcoming full-length debut record, Not Your Mirror, which is out later this summer. Juan Rodríguez
