Hallelujah the Hills previews new album with dual singles

Posted on:

The cool winds of the fall are settled in, but New England bands are still bringing in the heat. Such is the case with Boston’s Hallelujah the Hills, whose dual singles are hot alt-rock music to gather around. “Folk Music Is Insane” is melodic in the verses and destructive in the choruses: from grand piano embellishments to swelling orchestral instrumentation drowned in guitar distortion, you never quite know where the song is headed, and that is alright. “Running Hot With Fate” has more of an indie feel to it, with harmonies glazed atop a steady rhythm section that drives the song forward with sweet style (you can’t help but be infected by the groove). Hallelujah the Hills is not afraid to go big; the band stands out by blending indie rock with a distinct Americana touch—now that is different. The singles are part of the band’s upcoming album, I’m You, which is slated for release November 15, 2019. Stream “Running Hot With Fate” below to start your week right. – Rene Cobar

Listen to Hurt Valley’s dusty, sun-dappled debut single “Apartment Houses,” sign to Woodsist

Posted on:

Brian Collins doesn’t wish anything heinous on any duplicitous friendships. So instead, the rootsy singer-songwriter, who goes by Hurt Valley,  would rather kill them with kindness. "I’m so happy you are leaving/I only want good things for you," Collins jests on his first single "Apartment Houses," keeping his cool over a breezy guitar melody that’s pitched halfway between acoustic folk and late-sixties British psychedelia. The dusty, sun-dappled track takes Collins out of the city and into the highway, or at least through his state of mind, learning to move on as he gives himself the space he needs.

"Apartment Houses" is the first single off Hurt Valley’s debut album Glacial Place, which is due out December 6 via Woodsist. – Juan Rodríguez

10.25: Grace Ives takes the stage at Rough Trade NYC

Posted on:

Rough Trade’s stage remains one of the biggest for indie artists who come through New York, whether they’re up-and-comers or established acts in the scene. Grace Ives straddles that line, as she’s by no means green to creating great electropop, but she continues to attract new fans with every release and performance. Ives’ next show will take place on the Rough Trade stage on October 25th; while there’s no new album to support, she’ll share the bill with Claud Mintz, with whom she’s toured for the past couple of months. Ives’ last album 2nd came out last April; take a look at the recent music video for her track "Icing On The Cake" below. – Will Sisskind

We say "newly formed”, but we all know that these there have been featuring on each others tracks years. However, this truly feels like something new and bigger. We, and the world, hope this is only the start of what is to come.

Ava Heatley releases new single “Party”

Posted on:

NYC based singer-songwriter Ava Heatley released her latest single, “Party,” a couple of weeks ago, a somber and reflective piece, depicting the thoughts of a girl at a party, having a conversation with herself rather than, well, fun. Heatley’s airy and gentle vocals take the listener through the character’s alienation, immersed in a sparse and droney arrangement that fits the melancholic melody. The single follows her previous track "Shitty Tattoo" released this past summer with an accompanying music video, and 2018 EP Beautiful/Terrifying.
