Black Beach previews upcoming album with noisy single “Sometimes This Body Lets Me Down”

Posted on:

Harsh, loud, disturbing, and plenty entertaining is "Sometimes This Body Lets Me Down" the latest single from Boston post-punk rockers Black Beach. The grainy song features all the ire of bursting drums, mangled guitar riffs, and swelling vocal cords—think Black Sabbath and Rage Against the Machine in a fiery car crash. The single is a thorny preview of the band’s upcoming record Tapeworm due out October 11th. Black Beach is known for its penchant for doom-laced tunes and its flirtations with grunge disruptions; the energetic single is a promise of more madness to come. We are streaming "Sometimes This Body Lets Me Down" below to agitate your weekend. – Rene Cobar

Mr. Andrew’s pleasing punk folk

Posted on:

We’re pleased to share some tunes from San Francisco’s own Mr. Andrew. Aptly described as folk punk, Mr. Andrew embodies a lot of things we love: laughter, sarcasm, frustrations. He seems like a cool dude to go camping with. For enjoyers of the Mountain Goats, Neil Young, Mac DeMarco and some early 2000’s alternative. Listen for yourself and hey, Mr. Andrew, we’re ready for more shows! – Michelle Kicherer, Associate Editor

Weekend Warrior – August 23 -25

Posted on:

Somber, sincere songs with a barroom grit and smokiness, Don Babylon captures the feel of pushing through the gray days in the hope that tomorrow represents a fresh start. As the clouds weigh heavy overhead, the band captures a rough-around-the-edges, honest, in-the-moment sound that’s willing to expose its flaws with storytelling that makes those tales ring true. With their new album Does It Even Matter, Party Muscles delivers crisp, melodic rippers, while Madalean Gauze delivers mesmerizing, psych-infused rock. The Brooklyn-based, garage-rock quintet, Damn Jackals, rounds out this Saturday evening lineup at Boot & Saddle. – Michael Colavita

A Deli Premiere: “Cup b/w Coffee” by Divorce Cop

Posted on:

Portland, Maine’s Divorce Cop sucker-punches you with a unique brand of noise rock, and somehow you are not mad. The band mauls drum sets, deforms basslines, and sings with drunken cheer in its raucous dual single "Cup b/w Coffee." The brand new two-headed sonic monster may be short, but its sound is frightful-delightful fun. "Cup" is unhinged drum pounding accompanied by a sensitive string-instrument melody, together they rise like dirty spume and let drip a lively chorus and a gooey bassline. "Coffee" leans more indie, but keeps the noise high: the track is turbulent, exciting, and the dynamic electric guitar work cannot be overlooked. The dual single release show is set for this evening at the Apohadion Theater in the band’s hometown. The 7" is out now via Salty Speakers, and us here at the deli are thrilled to premiere the tracks for you below. – Rene Cobar

Begin your day with Hana Vu’s “At the Party”

Posted on:

A roundhouse kick to the face would be an appropriate approach to how Hana Vu’s newest single, “At The Party,” hits. This 19-year-old powerhouse from L.A. has been a self-proclaimed singer songwriter from the age of 13, and luckily for us (and for her), was given a record deal last year. Saturated with strong bass and synth notes, it will make any short drive, walk to the market, and quick coffee shop stop before the night begins memorable. “At The Party” creates a fun, disco pop vibe to your end of summer playlist, pairing a dark and twisted visual representation of uncertainty with stimulating lyrics and cadence to elevate any mood.

On October, Hana Vu will bring a double EP she named Nicole Kidman / Anne Hathaway. She begins her tour in Vancouver in September, but you can catch her at the Lodge Room in L.A. on October 2nd. – Kayla Hay

New Trash Boy LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

Trash Boy’s new full-length album, Who Will Take the Trash Out When We’re Gone? (which was produced by Kyle Pulley at Headroom Studios), is now available via Good How Are You Records. Energetic, venting vignettes express frustration/agitation over daily personal, professional, and societal issues. It’s a cathartic collection of tracks with anthemic hooks. The quartet is currently scheduled to perform in Philly on a Wednesday, October 30 at Johnny Brenda’s, on a billing that also features Full Bush and Teenage Bigfoot.
