The Juvenescent “27 Club”

The Juvensscent have had an exciting month so far and it is only August 8th. Last week, they week they released the video for their debut single, “27 Club”, and this week they performed their first live show at Schuba’s.

This is the slightly dark Rock of John Perrin and frontman Gray, and don’t be fooled by this sudden explosion, they have been working on this project since 2017.

“27 Club”, which is backed by “Sunday Mourning”, take a somewhat depressing theme of dying young and famous and makes it so listenable and memorable. It is a take on the rockstar lifestyle that just may make Gray just that.

Amanda Palmer debuts provocative music video for “Drowning in the Sound”

Boston’s Amanda Palmer released There Will Be No Intermission back in March, of the twenty tracks on the record “Drowning in the Sound” always stood above them all. The sharp orchestral changes led by disjointed piano strains provide the canvas for Palmer to paint inconvenient portraits of society with her lyrics. Amanda tackles tough subjects like abortion, climate change, and today’s political whirlwind of division with both sophistication and a much-needed crudeness. The music video for the single is a dance movement spectacle of the turmoil within. Beautifully orchestrated by Coco Karol and directed by Michael Pope, the “Drowning in the Sound” music video is an elegant portrayal of inner turbulence in the face of difficult and personal decisions. The video begs to be viewed and felt with the same intensity it was created; it is art the way art should always be: provocative. Hospital Bracelet Split EP

Hospital Bracelet released a split EP with fourthbase called “Silver Cactus” last week. This is the solo acoustic bedroom pop of Alex Bracelet aka Wrestler Arc Williams at the moment, but these songs will also sound amazing with a the full band she is currently constructing. The opening track begins with an audio clip from The Office and is called “Chocolate Milk (like in Spiderman)", and that should really be all you need to give it a listen.

Debut Empty Country Single Release Available for Streaming & Purchase

Joseph D’Agostino (of Cymbals Eat Guitars) recently announced a new project, Empty Country. As a precursor to a forthcoming album that is slated to arrive early next year, a pair of songs, "Ultrasound" and "Jets," were recently made available via Tiny Engines. "Ultrasound" explores the emotional turmoil and anxiety of waiting for a biopsy report “…following a suspicious-looking ultrasound”. With D’Agostino’s wife Rachel, as well as Charles Bissell of The Wrens, featured on vocal harmony, the song fuses a sense of a loving connection and appreciation as one goes through a whirlwind.

Underwire “Revenged”

Underwire has released a new single called “Revenged”. This was recorded at Empty Bottle and is a part of the Sing Me A Story Series. The song was inspired by a story called "The Fall of Leopard’s and Rabbit’s Friendship” by a seven year old Ugandan girl named Angel.

ESSi drone and disorient on “Pines And Cones,” play Alphaville 10.5

New York noise enthusiasts ESSi know their way around a busted Line 6 amplifier, and their newest single “Pines Ands Cones” demonstrates an aptitude for all the bells and hisses of an electric guitar. While the track builds its energy with a grimy driving four on the floor beat, it quickly transitions to a meandering, noodling trance; guitarist and singer Jessica Ackerly delivers an aggressive vocal performance against Rick Daniel’s doomsday percussion, resulting in a final cut that feels like an industrial fugue state. It’s disorienting, dissonant, and rough around the edges (in the best way possible), a hype-worthy teaser of what we can expect on the duo’s forthcoming debut, Vital Creatures, out October 11th on Ramp Local. Fish House releases escapist new single, plays Lilypad Inman 08.10

A little groovy, a little surfy, and a lot of fun is “Better for It” the latest single from Boston’s Fish House. The talented trio does not lack direction: each note in the new track is carefully placed to stimulate the senses, create images of a peaceful world desired. The band’s indie rock is polished with elements of R&B, creating its appeal. From the smooth vocal delivery to the deep bass groove and shimmering piano notes that surround it, the single is a sonic rope leading to escape. Indie rock’s progression over the last few years has leaned toward the harsh electronic sounds of Ty Segall and Des Rocs, but it could be argued what Fish House offers for the genre is far more sensitive and sound. New Music Video: “For Billy” – Sheena, Anika and Augusta

Sheena, Anika and Augusta, a.k.a. Sheena Ozzella (Lemuria), Anika Pyle (Katie Ellen, Chumped), and Augusta Koch (Cayetana, Gladie), will release their debut EP Simple Pleasures on September 6 via Asian Man Records. Its lead single, “For Billy,” is a spellbinding a cappella that interlaces the trio’s vocals in a penetrating, fluid beauty.
