Calling their music "cumbia" would only scratch the surface of Combo Chimbita’s material. On their forthcoming album Ahomale, out May 3rd, the New-York-via-Colombia group turns the entire genre, and all its preconceptions, on its head. Weaving their fondness for psychedelia, metal and punk into a sound they call “tropical futurism”, this quartet creates a vehicle through which they explore the complexities of the Afro-Latin diaspora, and with which they imagine a stunning and prophetic destiny. Not only is their musical intent ambitious, Combo Chimbita has the musical chops to carry it through – the songs on Ahomale are driven, vivacious, and uncompromising. Check out their first single “Brillo Más Que El Oro (La Bala Apuntándome)” below, and don’t miss their show at Elsewhere on May 4th. -Sunny Betz
Album Premiere: WEEED – You Are The Sky
WEEED is releasing their 6th LP You Are The Sky and The Deli is lucky enough to be the ones to share it with you. While the album is definitely true to the psych-rock heart of the band, its krautrock and occult influences are what really pull you in. Listening to the album in its entirety is akin to walking a path full of twists and turns. One moment you’re peacefully hanging out in a sun-bathed field. The next you’re dancing your hardest in the middle of a hot, sweaty crowd. Above all else, no matter where the band takes you, you’re definitely stoned. It’s incredibly satisfying how WEEED can bring you into that mindset, even if you aren’t actually on any substances. It’s fair to say smoking a bowl while playing You Are The Sky is equivalent to eating cheese with wine. So do with that what you will.
WEEED is playing their release show tonight at Mississippi Studios. Dreamdecay and Sea Moss will also be playing sets. You can find out more info here.

Daise’s “Glass Mind” is escapist dream-pop with a message
Daise dropped yet another dreamy pop single to make your heart melt. “Glass Mind” is a mentally moving story of overcoming the hardest times in your life and not letting it affect your future. The lyrics alone transcended me into a new and elevated mood, creating a stellar, almost surreal 5 minutes of bliss. Their chillwave-informed ambiance remains wholesome to the sound they are known for, all while paying homage to a sound that sparks creativeness to anyone that listens to it.
Glass Mind is the newest single to be released from their upcoming album out later this spring. Catch Daise at The Fox Theater in Pomona on March 9th. Kayla Hay
Faiyaz & the Wasted Chances – “Another Crooked Line” single, Horseshoe 03.15
Toronto 3 piece garage rockers Faiyaz and the Wasted Chances have just released a brand new single. “Another Crooked Line” kicks off with the fuzz cranked right up but the verse follows with a dreamy pop feel. It all comes together for the big singalong chorus where they mention more wasted chances…so perhaps it’s not just a clever band name. They live the gimmick! So make sure to see these fellas live at the Horseshoe Tavern on March 15th with The Weather Wild, The Yonge Collective, The Celebration Army and Sophie & the Gentles. – Kris Gies
Absolutely Not “Glitch” Video
Absolutely Not has released a terrifying, but darkly funny, Dave Rentauskas directed video for their latest single “Glitch”. The premise of the video imagines Trump as a Michael Myers like figure as his physically attacks the individuals that he currently only verbally and politically attacks.
The track is taken from their latest album, Problematic, which will be released this Friday, March 1st.
You can catch Absolutely Not at Empty Bottle on March 2nd with NO MEN and Paper Mice.

Grunge revivalist Welles plays the Basement on 03.16
What do you do when you’ve received accolades from the press for your debut album, toured Europe, performed with Greta Van Fleet and the Regrettes, and been compared to Kurt Cobain? You come home to Nashville and you play a show for your friends. That’s what Welles — the moniker of singer-songwriter Jesse Wells — is doing on March 16th, as he thunders back into town to play a rip-roaring set at the Basement. If you’ve missed out on his smash single "Seventeen" or his debut album Red Trees and White Trashes, think of Welles’s sound as Ty Segall meeting Jay Reatard and going at it all over the genre spectrum. On stage, Welles’s higher-octane tracks will have you jumping as he gets in your face; his more soulful tunes will leave you standing in awe. Check him out at the Basement on March 16th, and take a listen to "Seventeen" below. – Will Sisskind

Rapper Jacob ZL’s moody hip hop
Flatbush’s Jacob ZL isn’t afraid to channel his own struggles through his music, toiling in smooth vintage-inspired beats and self deprecating lyrics as he rides the wave out of an intense breakup. In "Distance" is song about a romance gone wrong, that sees the MC delivering lines about the end of a tormented relationship with the ease of someone resigned to his fate. It might not be easy listening, but it’s definitely intriguing – check out the track below. -Sunny Betz
New Track: “Don’t Mind Joe Death” – Paris’s Songs
Paris’s Songs recently shared its debut single, “Don’t Mind Joe Death”. In search of change, while recognizing lethargy, an electro-percussive, bedroom-folk tone is established. Those feelings of pushing through, despite a momentary lack of motivation, linger. It’s a tranquil melancholy that shifts into a bit of fuzz as its cyclical plot draws to a close.
Nonlocal Forecast “Bubble Universe!”
Hausu Mountain will be releasing the latest project from Angel Marcloid, Bubble Universe!, tomorrow, March 1st. For this project Angel, who typically records as Fire-Toolz (or Mindspring Memories), is going by the name Nonlocal Forecast, and from the opening sounds of the album’s lead track, “Celestial Nervous System”, it is clear why. This project has a lush, organic feel that is rarely present in her experimental electronic work as Fire-Toolz. This is clearly the other side of a what is an incredibly talented musician.
