Andy Macintyre Breaks Through With Melomania

Posted on:

Andy Macintyre moved to Austin from Chicago when he was 18, and has brought together both city’s music influences throughout his development. Having cut his teeth early on Nirvana and Stones riffs, Andy has found his home under the influence of Muddy Waters, Albert Collins and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Playing around Austin blues haunts, Andy has made a name for himself as a versatile guitarist and frontman that moves effortlessly between no-frills rock, bone marrow blues, and country storytelling. The EP, Melomania, is the direct result of years of hard work and has a notable team including mixing engineer, Tim Palmer (U2, Pearl Jam) and producer, Stuart Sullivan (Sublime, Meat Puppets). Andy Macintyre hasn’t taken any shortcuts in his music journey and a hard-hitting EP like Melomania is proof that hard work has a rewarding payoff.

Elly Swope EP Release

Posted on:

Elly Swope’s debut EP, It Feels The Same Every Time, is coming out this Friday, November 9th. The release show is the following Sunday. To get yourself properly amped up, listen to the album’s first single “Idea.” The song is sweet and sad, which is fitting considering Swope wrote it about the ways “we dissociate after a breakup.” Her voice is startlingly stark, which makes the plaintive lyrics more combative than pleading. Swope sings with heavy emotions in her heart but performs with a cool head.

The release show is this Sunday, November 11th at Turn Turn Turn. Saroon and Deathlist will also be performing.

Love Jerks do it their way on debut album ‘Million Movies’

Posted on:

If the debut album Million Movies by San Francisco’s husband and wife duo Love Jerks had come out about 40 years ago, it’s likely that they would’ve been tapped for the Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack. The album is unlike anything else, combining over-the-top emotion with corn-syrup-sweetened lyrics and a delivery so ironic that it becomes serious. Teeny-boppers face doomsday on the high-speed track "Apocalyptic Make-Out," featuring the tongue-in-cheek chorus of "Oh owww. Squeezing these. Kissing that." Love-birds spin "round & round" on "Gold Sparkle," the perfect prom song for the hopelessly and embarassingly smitten. The self-titled track begins with Bryan declaring "You’ve got some fangs, but it don’t get me upset / I’ll bring the blood, if you bring the turtleneck." On this album, love is weird. It’s fanatic, fleeting, fabulous. And, most of all, it’s grand. Because what could be better than two love jerks finding each other and forgetting the rest? Get a little closer to synth-pop heaven and stream Million Movies below and keep an eye out for the Love Jerks’ next live show. – Lilly Milman

Jacque Jordan releases new Americana EP “The L.J.”

Posted on:

There’s a smoky and carefree nature to Jacque Jordan‘s brand of folk indie; her newest EP The L.J. contains five tracks that Jordan has honed over the last several months to best show her style. As an Atlanta native who calls Nashville home, Jordan embodies the warmth of a Southern autumn night and the passion of a songwriter searching for the right words to paint a picture of her present moment. All of the songs on The L.J. contain field noise, which gives the impression that they were recorded live; that gives these polished songs the rough edge that makes Jordan’s latest EP interesting. The album is available on Spotify; watch her live performance of the track "Wild Oats" below. – Will Sisskind

Video Premiere: Ludlow “The Country”

Posted on:

We are proud to be able to premiere the new single “The Country” from Ludlow. This is the first single from their forthcoming EP, “Sunset Blues”, which will be released on December 6th. The video and song both act as a tour diary of the band’s recent travels across the country.

This is what the band had to say about the video, "We didn’t want to make a video that showed how we’re all alike and that we should all get along. We wanted to make a video that showed how different our circumstances are from others’ across the country. Some folks are in crowds, some are miles away from anyone else. Some people are relaxing by the water while others’ homes are being ruined by it. That’s the country that we’re proud to be a part of — the one protesting, the one with pretty landscapes and beaches, the one ravaged by storms. Not some of it, but all of it."

Ludlow is the folk-pop of Mark Schoeck, Maria Kloess Noble, Josh Noble, Eddie Canga, and Bridget Smith.

“The Country" will be officially landing on all of the major outlets (Spotify/iTunes) tomorrow, November 8th.

Debut Soul Dolphin Album Available for Streaming & Download

Courtesy of Cold Punch Music Group, Deja Vu All Over is Soul Dolphin‘s debut album. Tranquilizing reverberations dissipate along an experimental tract. Combining that measured, melodic, meditative state with more aggressive, deep-tunneling grooves, there’s an isolated eye on the future landscape. It’s a head trip that doesn’t venture too far from home, exploring another wrinkle within the mind.

Pearla seeks absolution on “Forgive Yourself,” plays Zone One 11.28

Posted on:

“Can you forgive yourself for turning your back in fear? Do you understand your friends when they decide to stay at home?”

These are some of the questions Brooklyn singer-songwriter Pearla asks on her recent single, “Forgive Yourself,” a track filled with inquiries that are so disconcerting and difficult to answer that it’s hard to tell if they are experiments in self-examination or merely rhetorical. Regardless, there’s a remarkable amount of introspection evoked over the course of “Forgive Yourself’s” three sparse minutes, all building to an explosive end of featherweight vocal harmonies and thunderous electronic noise. Pearla’s sound is mellifluous and engrossing, but her music resonates so strongly from the sense of unease in what she asks of us as listeners – to take a good hard look at our lives, and ask for forgiveness. It’s a task easier sung than done.

Pearla will play Zone One at Elsewhere on November 28th, supporting Ritual Talk and Stello. Ahead of the show, stream her newest release Forgive Yourself, Pumpkin below. -Connor Beckett McInerney (@b_ck_tt) Photo by Josh Katz

New Music Video: “Indifferent Belushi” – Steady Hands

Posted on:

With all the rain earlier this week and though not all the races yesterday turned out the way we wanted (much love to Beto O’Rourke & Andrew Gillum), we are very happy that the sun is out, and the brakes have been put on this Trump administration trainwreck. Last night was bittersweet, but we’re feeling a bit more positive today so we thought Steady Hands‘ new video for "Indifferent Belushi" might put an added bounce in all our steps this morning. Our apologies to those who are at work or in class and might be feeling some FOMO watching this video. We give you permission to get up, walk out, and enjoy the rest of your day.

Dirty Work – Classic Street Punk, Coalition 11.16

Posted on:

Dirty Work is a 3 piece straight up street punk band. They scream Oi! and don’t care about you. They have the energy of all the old school punk bands from the 70s and 80s. Their new record “In The West End” was released earlier this month and consists of 12 ripper punk tunes. Get in, get dirty, get out. Crank up the opening track “Ready To Go” and enjoy the cameo appearance from two legends at the very beginning. Dirty Work plays Coalition on Friday November 16 with Dayglo Abortions and The Nasties. – Kris Gies
