Full Bush’s Cassie O’Leary, Adesola Ogunleye, Kate Breish, and Jayne Rutter found themselves bonding one evening over drinks and their displeasures with the “double standards for the upkeep of women and men in heteronormative relationships.” And in the sobering daylight of the next morning, they knew that something had “clicked,” and another rad band name would find its way on venue calendars and throughout the Interweb. Blending the individual members’ diverse musical tastes also seems to be something else that clicked on the band’s debut self-titled album. Though you might have been already rockin’ out to their record since the summertime, Full Bush will be giving it a proper coming out party this Mischief Night at Johnny Brenda’s, supported by Corey Flood and Resilient. Don’t be lame – definitely dress up & check out our Featured Artist(s) interview with the whole gang HERE!
Slacker rock is often unfairly misunderstood from wider audiences. The lo-fi and haphazard veneer often gets misconstrued for lazy songwriting, but bands like Ghost King illustrate why that misconception is so undeserved. On "Slither," they combine the more psychedelic riffs of surf rock with the rickety velocity of garage rock, swerving back and forth through these inspirations with ease, effusing a multifaceted, hardworking ethos. The video for this latest single features the group dedicated to cleaning their community in an enthusiastic and slipshod manner, mirroring the dynamic sound of their music. This latest single is the first release from their upcoming album Dunbar Swamp which will release next January, and you can stream the video below. -Tucker Pennington
An unrelenting, raw intensity streams from Soul Glo. Their latest single, “Mathed Up,” allows the flow of frustration over societal oppression to come to a lyrical head. Exploring the fervor of inequality in a densely-packed, musical window, the vocals hover between an unfiltered, furious scream and a crisper, hip-hop delivery; that combination creates a balanced, resounding impact. Soul Glo will be performing this evening at Everybody Hits, as part of the Mass Liberation Campaign Benefit, which also features Sammus, Pinkwash, and Likes. (Photo by Luke Mouradian)
Faintlife has released a second single, “The Skin”, from their forthcoming LP, Virgin, which is due out November 16th.
Faintlife is is the acoustic Psych Pop of Sam Shaffer, Matt Velasco, and Robert Fowler.
Y La Bamba has announced a new album, Mujeres, which will be out February 8th via Tender Loving Empire. The band has provided an early release of the titular song "Mujeres". In the announcement accompanying the release, vocalist Luz Elena Mendoza stated, “This song is for my mother and for all of us women who have and still battle the fight to be heard.” Mendoza herself wages a fierce battle with her breakneck pace and nuanced vocals. The urgency thrumming underneath her confidence plays well with the muted bass and heavy beats. If every song is as good as this, the album is sure to be one for the ages.
Check out a live performance of the song below, provided by KEXP. Y La Bamba is kicking off their fall tour tonight, October 25th at Mississippi Studios.

Matthew Law, who was formerly known around town as DJ PHSH, now has a new imprint, Friends & Fam. Its first single, "Boil & Pop," featuring Queen Jo, moves with a heart-pumping beat that warps into a key-laced, liquified groove. The Philly femcee takes command of the track, in an assertive-confident manner, demonstrating that she’s not one to be trifled with. You can find Matthew Law hosting Thursdays 4 Love tonight at Saint Lazarus Bar, with special guest DJ G33K.
Safari Room have been active since 2016, but they’ve spent the past year in a fervor of recording frenzy, putting out their single "Antelope" in June and then their EP Actual Feelings in July. The versatile indie pop group stems from the musical and lyrical brain of Alec Koukol, who employs the help of friends and fellow Nashville musicians Simon Knudtson, Emma Lambiase, and Nathan Gamble to help bring the songs to life. Safari Room have continued to track songs in the studio throughout the summer and fall, meaning that new music could be on the way. They’ll play what they’ve been working on at The East Room on 11.02 with Luke Krutzke & the High Tides and Willix also on the bill. Take a listen to Actual Feelings below. – Will Sisskind
Gnarcissists are a rare band—raw and practically splitting apart with convulsive energy. Not that the sound is something unfamiliar, there’s a bit of The Stooges relentless garage rock energy, a twinge of Sex Pistols snarl, and enough drug references to bring the Velvet Underground to mind. But Gnarcissists’ newest EP, released earlier this month, captures that feeling of something alive happening in front of you in ways that many retro rock and rollers are unable to. The band plays next at Baby’s All Right on October 27 for a free show put on by Dr. Martens. – Cameron Carr
New Hampshire’s favorite freak-folkers People Like You are back and spookier than ever in their newest single "Sounds of the House" (streaming below) which comes complete with a video filmed at Haunted Overload in Lee, N.H. It’s a shame that Halloween music isn’t a bigger genre, but People Like You are doing what they do best by moving forward into unexplored (and perhaps even haunted) territories. The kitschy clip places the band in the center of a ghoulish wonderland, populated by creepy baby dolls, masked performers, and monsters knocking on closet doors. Turn off the lights and take a look for yourself. Oh, and don’t look under the bed — you never know who or what may be lurking. Get into the Halloween spirit with People Like You tomorrow (10.26) at Charlie O’s World Famous Halloween Bash, or Saturday (10.27) at The Stone Church. – Lilly Milman
