Mint Trip release new single “Pay to Play,” play the Hi-Hat on 11/15

Posted on:

Amy Gionfriddo, the bombshell lead singer of Mint Trip, is joined by the talents of Brian Gross (bass) and Max Molander (guitar) to produce an intriguing and retro take on the glam pop/indie rock genre. Expanding their musical talents into multiple genre categories has broadened their expertise and headlined their career paths, with Gionfriddo’s expansive lyrical and vocal techniques somniferous in the most sincere way. The trio’s range of talent jumps from gospel ballads to synthesized 80’s pop, alongside subtle hints of laid-back rock and roll to keep audiences on their feet. They take a leap with their music, and it lands them wherever they very well please, and it is definitely worth the trip.

Catch Mint Trip with Keira Moran at Brewyard Beer Company on August 25, or at The Hi-Hat on November 15th. Kayla Hay

Pure Bathing Culture at the Doug Fir

Posted on:

Pure Bathing Culture, composed of Vetiver’s Sarah Versprille and Daniel Hindman, is playing a show this Saturday at the Doug Fir. The duo has most recently teamed up with Turntable Records to cover The Blue Nile’s album Hats, an homage that has been quite a few years in the making. In fact, Pure Bathing Culture was first introduced to The Blue Nile while recording their first ep. According to Versprille, they were both “immediately obsessed with their world of nostalgia and longing.” Pure Bathing Culture does the album immense justice. Their voices blend into a deep, romantic harmony, and they bring a new element of wistfulness to the album’s dreamy nature .

Pure Bathing Culture will be at the Doug Fir Lounge this Saturday, August 25th, along with King Who and Kasey Johansing

Holy Golden release sunny video for new single “Lost Island”

Posted on:

Perhaps the film industry won’t ever die, as long as enough indie acts decide to shoot music videos on old strips of 8mm cellulite. Holy Golden is the latest group to choose the faded film aesthetic, which lends to the clip for their newest single "Lost Island" the familiar, vintage looking bleeding washed-out color and soft edges. The video, filmed on location in a Swedish resort full of 1950s charm, evokes images of a forgotten era, looking like a compilation of footage from colorized teen beach B-movie flicks. "Lost Island"’s dreamy nature pairs well with the video; the duo of Leslie Schott and Andrew Valenti, who come to Brooklyn from New England’s shores, recorded the sunny track in the middle of winter, releasing it just in time for the doggiest days of the summer. It’s the first single to come from the group’s upcoming collection, called Sleepwalkers in the Milky Way. Watch the video for "Lost Island" below. – Will Sisskind

Riders Against the Storm Host Festival and Drop Single “OverUnder”

Posted on:

Local hip-hop funketeer group, Riders Against the Storm, are revving up the 5th annual RAS day which will feature other headliners like the legendary Saul Williams, NYC rapper Nitty Scott, and the Brazilian afro-rockers, Gato Preto.  This years RAS day fest has some magnified significance this year because of the targeted bombings that were perpetrated against people of color earlier this year, and the resilience of that community which would rather express themselves artistically rather than continue the hate.  While music is the main attraction at RAS Day, art and wellness are also on the docket for an immersive experience. RAS day tickets are $20 and can be bought here.  As we get ready for the festival on the 25th, Riders Against the Storm just dropped a new single "OverUnder" for you to imbibe prior to the event!

New The 1910 Chainsaw Company Album Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

The Balloon Goes Down Over Kensington is the new album from The 1910 Chainsaw Company. With a slightly warped vocal transmission and a skipping-through-the-park cheerfulness, the band finds a lovely, psych-pop balance. The smooth-sailing sound is peppered with guitar grit that dreamily drifts. Let the music set the tone, and make your escape.
