Candidly speaking one’s mind, backed by electro-beats that are catalysts to dancing in a daydreaming state, Dani in Public exudes an earnest kinetic energy. On the Left & Right EP, Dani delves into the nonstop process of self-evaluation. Seamless welding of spoken-sung words into fluid motion, there’s an ability to process personal challenges with a soulful honesty and a lyrical sharpness that hits the mark head on.
Wake Up, SFV Fest Moved Amidst Venue Closure
On August 31st, the music school, retail shop, and de facto DIY venue White Oak Music & Arts will shutdown indefinitely due to continued noise complaints from neighbors. In light of this situation, the annual locals event Wake Up, SFV has been moved, and there will be no further known shows held at the venue for the remainder month.
White Oak (WOMA for short) has been a staple venue of the San Fernando Valley since 2013, picking up the torch when another DIY venue, Cobalt Crane, closed its doors. Headed by two individuals Carlos Costa and Evan Lindley, WOMA has been the stomping grounds for many Valley-based music collectives like [Redacted], TwoHearts Shows, MVMNT Presents, Dog the Cat, Vale Records, and more. Despite being a nexus for the 818 to cultivate musical talent and communities, repeated acts of littering, loitering, and rowdiness prompted residents to take their complaints up with the local authorities and landlord, according to a detailed Instagram post found in the tagged posts for #WOMAismyHOMA.
Wake Up, SFV, an all-ages music and art showcase, enters its sixth iteration this year and includes Valley veterans like The Unending Thread, Young Lovers, and Kid Cadaver. It will be held on September 1st at The Grand Palace in Arleta, CA. – Ryan Mo

SILICA bring reckless energy to Remember September Music Festival in Brockton (9.1)
In the track “Genesis” (streaming below,) Rhode Island-based alt-rockers SILICA pose the question, “What’s to lose if you aint’ got nothing?” Unsurprisingly, this lyricism, which encourages letting loose, is matched with an unbridled and reckless energy that manifests itself into a synthy pop-punk amalgamation that’s been dubbed “dance punk.” As the song proclaims, they are “uncontained” and not afraid to just give it their all. Dance along with SILICA on the North Stage at the Remember September Music Festival in Brockton, MA on September 1 at 6:45 pm. – Lilly Milman
New Music Video: “Are You Looking” – Cave People
Below is the new video for "Are You Looking," which is featured on Salt (Stereophonodon Records), the forthcoming EP from Cave People, scheduled for release on September 7. Directed by Robert Salazar, a common thread of peppermints and nightly drives permeates throughout. Chronicling an evening as an Uber/Lyft driver, the job is displayed on the surface. However, the protagonist appears to recall more pleasant, intimate memories throughout. Mirroring the lyrics, one wonders what caused the distance/disconnect. Cave People are slated to appear at Union Transfer on Wednesday, September 5, as part of a lineup that also includes Kississippi, Ratboys, and Foxing.
Genie of The Lamp pay homage to Mac Dre in “Since ’84” live cover video
The quartet Genie of The Lamp are dedicated to paying homage towards Bay Area legend Mac Dre, who was instrumental in developing the local hip-hop scene. In their newest video for “Since ’84” (streaming below,) they channel nostalgia through vintage video effects and a stripped-down visual approach. The live cover of the track does justice to the original, highlighting both the technical execution and the Bay Area spirit of Genie of The Lamp. – Lilly Milman
DeModa and Akacia are perfectly balanced pop on “All We’ve Got”
It takes a smart producer to not overload his song with ideas. Maximalism is great an’all, but it can be tiresome when trying to craft elegant and poised electro-pop. Fortunately for DeModa, on “All We’ve Got” he’s found smart ways to transition from idea to idea without encumbering his dance track with unnecessary production tricks. Chirping birds and tropical percussion clear the path for Akacia’s sharp and sculpted vocals that cut through the ethereal production. Before the beat finally drops in an electronic ecstasy, the song shifts to a chilly, almost icy, mood before erupting in a hushed, yet thrilling explosion. Tunes like this deserve to be heard on every radio and dance floor before summer ends. – Tucker Pennington
Coaster “Stuck With It”

Unfortunately, this may be the band’s last album. Matt is moving to Los Angeles today leaving his bandmates to focus on their other projects. Matt and Coaster will truly be missed in Chicago.

New Track: “Lil Dreamer” – Davey and the Chains
Shimmy, the forthcoming full-length LP from Davey and the Chains, is due out September 14 via Tank Beach Tapes. Strands of slide guitar merge into backend, crafting an airy, infectious groove on “Lil Dreamer”. A breakup song told as a tale of escape and moving on; the single feels like cool breeze while traveling in the twilight. A crisp R&B/soul vibe lifts in a rejuvenating, dance-generating sense of freedom.
