Polyplastic release new single “Next Slide,” play at Gold Diggers on 6/29

Posted on:

Post-punk tends to go on two directions despite its sweeping expanse: you either mitigate some of its energy or you jar it as far as it can go. But there’s an equal balance on Polyplastic’s latest single "Next Slide," which takes the musty exterior of its Factory Records phase and reflects it with an elegiac beauty.  The duo of natives Charlie Ellis and Emily Ibarra deftly handle their latest single with a steady rhythmic pulse, where Ellis’s torchy vocal delivery slithers against its lean, urgent guitars.  It almost sounds like a livelier take on Joy Division’s "Dead Souls," but instead of a broken despondency, I hear a scintillating, and especially tuneful, anguish.

"Next Slide," is the latest single off of Polyplastic’s forthcoming EP, Not No Out, which comes out on June 29. The duo is celebrating the release with an EP release show at Gold Diggers on the same day. Juan Rodríguez

Sinnet releases music video for “Part of Yourself” & plays Lizard Lounge (6.30)

Posted on:

It’s hard to believe that the moody indie outfit Sinnet started in a bedroom on the laptop of Aaron Spransy not too long ago — given the band’s refined aesthetic, obvious chemistry, and knack for inventive songwriting — but that’s how the story goes. Boston’s favorite fuzz-rockers released the official music video for single “Part of Yourself” (streaming below) and, once again, it is a quirky project that impresses and leaves a lasting memory. Check out the video below, and see Sinnet play live at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge on June 30. – Lilly Milman

The blends elements of Motown, Indie Rock, and touch of Punk through out the album. The lead single, “Shout Out To Your Neighbors”, a classic Elvis Costello fell and such a compelling melody.

Dance a Lot, Cry a Little with Maarquii

Posted on:

Maarquii has been making a huge splash in the Portland music scene. Their second EP Lullaby in Gemini came out February 2017, and there’s a reason it’s gotten the attention it has. Maarquii lives in a very fast world, but they slow it down with their music. Their song “2chill” brings up images of bodies dancing in slow motion, bathed in dusky neon lights. The jazzy, R&B elements of their music combine well with the pulsing and heavy club-inspired beats. The jazz influence in their hip hop sound contributes towards a more mellow, sophisticated and mournful tone that makes single "Mizz Communication" especially poignant. Maarquii will be at the Doug Fir Lounge on July 6th with Karma Rivera, Fountaine, and Empress.

Jerry Paper’s “Your Cocoon” is a warped pop treat, playing Baby’s All Right 06.30

Posted on:

Nothing about Jerry Paper’s “Your Cocoon” is totally out of the ordinary, but it also never quite reaches ordinary. From the starting temp rev up that seems to transform into synths restarting at every chord all the way to the honking melodic shadow that doubles the song’s closing lines the music is slightly unusual, determinedly modern. Almost every sound in the song comes warped, transformed, edited into something new. Unlike the titular cocoon that will eventually fall away and reveal itself to be something else, Paper has morphed the instruments into something else that wraps and covers the original sounds. “Your Cocoon” will be released as a 7” in July by Stones Throw Records. For now, listen to the track below and catch Jerry Paper headlining Baby’s All Right on June 30 with Dougie Poole and Jennifer Vanilla. – Cameron Carr
