New Music Video: “Nothing” – Fleabite

Posted on:

NVM, the new EP from the quartet of Fleabite, is slated for release on June 29 via Salinas Records. The band finds Ali Donohue (Swanning, Waxahatchee) and Chelsea Dirck (Missing EarthYowler) joining forces with Aye Nako’s Joe McCann and Jade Payne. In their new video for the single “Nothing,” clay stop-motion is utilized, exhibiting a playful side as the song acknowledges regret in hindsight. It’s a raw-around-the-edges quick-hitter. The group is set to head out on tour in July, and they’ll be kicking things off in Philly on Tuesday, July 10 at a yet-to-be-announced location.

Spend your Summer Listening to Plastic Weather

Posted on:
As temperatures rise, it’s hard to find music suitable for the antsy, feverish moods caused by hotter nights. Luckily for those living in Portland, Plastic Weather is around to provide the perfect outlet for that restlessness. A self-described “bratty synth punk” band, Plastic Weather makes dynamically angry synth-pop. Fast percussive stabs and short synth sustains make the music heavy, compelling, and great for dancing. The synth playing especially stands out, and introduces elements of prog-rock into their music. Without it, the band would not have the spacey 80’s sci-fi soundscape that makes it so unique. The vocalist’s echoing, disembodied vocals pair well with their melodramatic and abstract lyrics. Ultimately, Plastic Weather sounds like an angsty synth-pop band trapped in a feverish daydream but having a good time. – Avril Carrillo

Plastic Weather’s next show will be June 10th with Planet Damn and GNäRDS at No Fun.

Whiite Walls Continue to Lavish Austin with Disco Vibes

Posted on:

Whiite Walls brings a tropical and infectious energy that illuminates any stage they perform on. A familiar presence in Austin for the last five years, the quintet still command a loyal following, despite a dearth of new music releases. The retro-funk group focuses on their singular goal of fomenting dance parties, but their influences point to Chic, Sister Sledge, and the Parliament. Lead guitarist and vocalist, Brent Dobey, orchestrates a deft symphony of tempo changes and choral explosions that can’t help but leave listeners in a trance. Keep an eye on these funketeers as they continue to spread their charm throughout Austin’s dance floors.

David Madras – Singer/Songwriter new single “Hercules”

Posted on:

David Madras is a singer/songwriter from Toronto making nice sounding Americana/roots tunes. Similar to a Justin Townes Earle kinda vibe. He just released a new single “Hercules”. This track carries a nice rhythm with a crisp sounding lead guitar while lyrically it seems more melancholy. That dynamic helps add layers to the track as a whole. You can see Madras perform at Open Tuning on Clinton St. on June 9th. – Kris Gies

New Music Video: “Zero Day” – Nothing

Posted on:

Nothing recently shared the new video for “Zero Day,” the first single from their forthcoming album, Dance On The Blacktop, due out August 24 via Relapse Records. Directed by Kevin Haus, ominous clouds hang overhead as the band of pallbearers carries frontman Nicky Palermo’s body through the streets of Philadelphia, surrounded by a parade of Mummers and Eagles fans. The melodic buzz carries a heavy undertone, even during its points of celebration. Supported by Swirlies, Big Bite, and Smut, the band is slated to headline Union Transfer on Saturday October 6.
