Oliva Hudson has released a video for her latest single, “The 9:30 Club (Sorry)”. The video was directed by Erica Manson and Hudson herself. This is Hudson’s first single since the released of her debut EP, “Intersections”, last September and features Jungheim on guitar.
Bruised
The Punk band Bruised has released a new EP called "…introduction to Rotten Codex”. This is five songs ranging from 59 second to 2:05 and all of them packing a fury of guitars, drums, and bass. This is the perfect post work, screaming in your car, EP.
New Track: “Fingernails” – Museum Food Court
“Fingernails” is featured on Parchment Paper, the debut release from Museum Food Court. A confessional, acoustic, bedroom-folk tone unfolds. As the sound of car breezes by, there’s a sense of regret over being unavailable to someone who has passed away. The recording feels like an apology voiced as part of the grieving process.
Eucademix unleashes fiercely experimental songs at Elsewhere on 06.13
It’s been over 20 years since the landmark debut album from Cibo Matto Viva! La Woman, and in that time founding member Yuka Honda has continued to push sonic boundaries. Through collaborations with artists like Yoko Ono and Nels Cline, her work has never settled down and continues to change shape. Now, under the Eucademix monicker, she is once again reshaping how we think about music. Focusing on the “limitations of logic”, she has crafted electronic pieces the are unshapely and abrasive. Hissing feedback acts a barrier to entry, but the intricate breakbeats and pulsing synthesizers offer a song that rewards a patient listener. Pushing pass the abrasive moments, Honda finds serenity in the kinetic and exploratory maelstrom of her compositions. Her experimental constructions can be heard at Elsewhere on June 13. – Tucker Pennington
The DropUps – “Put Your Boots Up #6” 06.16
Local genre-bending gypsy rock band The DropUps have been hosting a bi-monthly event at the Junction City Music Hall called “Put Your Boots Up.” The event has grown a steady following as The DropUps introduce various other interesting bands. Saturday June 16th is the sixth “Put Your Boots Up” event and along with The DropUps, the event will feature Montreal gypsy-punk band Fidel Fiasco and local trash-folk act Jack Daniel’s Band. Have a look at The Drop Ups latest video “Sheffield Lights”. Doors at 8. 5 Bucks. – Kris Gies
Sidney Gish headlines Northside showcase with lively bedroom pop
“Not But For You, Bunny” begins with a thin guitar playing a sort of half-realized funk rhythm before drums come in with a mid-paced bounce, a dance beat but slowed down. It’s a standout track from Sidney Gish’s 2017 album No Dogs Allowed and a prime example of the musician’s effortless bedroom pop arrangements. Without losing the pulse and fun of pop music Gish simplifies and reinterprets, like cartoon drawings of everyone you love. See her at Baby’s All Right tonight (06.09) for a Northside Festival presented by Double Double Whammy, Grlmic, and Terrorbird Media Gish will be joined by similarly-minded artists Free Cake For Every Creature, Orion Sun, Yowler, GABI, and Michelle Blades. – Cameron Carr

Their hometown EP release show will take place on June 10th at Fitz’s Spare Keys in Elmhurst.
V.V. Lightbody “Fish In Fives” Video
V.V. Lightbody has released a video for my personal favorite song from her debut album, Bathing Peach, “Fish In Fives”. The LP, out today (June 8th) via Midwest Action, is the perfect breezy summer album from start to finish, and this track is the perfect example of that.
You can help V.V. Lightbody celebrate this new album tonight, June 8th, at Schubas with Rose Hotel.
Weekend Warrior, June 8 – 10
Sweaty, heart-pounding primal rhythms, compounded by raunchy riffs and roaring, raspy vocals, Ecstatic Vision taps into grimy grooves, and explores the smoky haze, creating a mystical setting. Tonight, Kung Fu Necktie will host a celebration of the band’s latest release Under the Influence, a collection of covers paying homage to their musical predecessors. Released via Heavy Psych Sounds, a hot-on-your-heels heaviness develops a gut-checking sense of suspense, adhering as one races through the sticky, sonic forest. Reinforcing the rowdy, in-your-face, hard-rockin’ aesthetic, Narcos Family Band saturates in a unbridled stampede, welcoming all challengers. And Heavy Psych Sounds labelmates and fellow locals High Reeper will be kicking off the festivities. – Michael Colavita
