Bo Welland – “Thank The Lord” Single, Supermarket 05.17
Bo Welland is the name of a rock band from Toronto…not the name of any person in the band however. Influenced by many early 2000’s indie rock bands such as The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys and the Libertines along with classics like Simon & Garfunkel and The Clash. They have a nice slacker attitude in the track “Thank The Lord”. The lazy vocals and somewhat sloppy guitars float along in endearing fashion. Bo Welland plays Supermarket on May 17th with Fat Chance, The Jones and Charlie Joy. – Kris Gies
Foxanne releases EP, plays Rose Gold tonight (04.13)
There is a delicate subtlety to Foxanne’s songwriting that sets the indie-folk trio’s music apart from peers. While the light guitar work and emphasis on vocal melodies comes from a folk tradition, the minimal and airy arrangements that simmer behind Chelsea Gohd’s voice fall more in line with acts like Daughter or Julien Baker. The band is preparing to release its debut studio EP halfling on April 13th and the leading singles pair gentle finger-picking with rolling floor toms that leave room for Gohd’s voice to shine in front. You can catch Foxanne live when the band plays Rose Gold the night of the release along with Andy Cook, who has his own EP out that day. – Cameron Carr
Weekend Warrior, April 13 – 15
A grimy, alluring swirl of punk-jazz-noise thrown into a musical cauldron, Taiwan Housing Project melds a diverse range of sounds into a most excellent sonic stew, which will be served up at the batting cages of Everybody Hits this evening. It’s hard to pin down or compartmentalize the band’s collective sound, and in part, that’s what makes things so intriguing. At first, there’s a sweaty, primal force; the assemblage of instrumentation and ideas don’t automatically align. However, as it saturates into one’s system, an alternative circuitry develops. Once those newfound connections are made, torrential affect takes hold. As we await the release of their forthcoming debut LP Covert Contracts, post-punk trio Control Top delivers a calculated fury that’ll actually make you dance. The exuberant, eclectic, experimentation of Oakland-based trio Preening ties this lineup, presented by WKDU, together. – Michael Colavita

The Deli LA Premieres: Paige Calico, “Bad With” (Video)
Paige Calico recognizes the negative behaviors attributed to a toxic love pattern on "Bad With." But there’s also a patent joy to the singer-songwriter’s vocal delivery, a quivering, husky tone that is smoothened with a velvety touch. "Oh, can you be with someone you are bad with," Calico muses as an airy, soft rock melody ushers the subtle power of her candid gestures. The song’s jangly, sun-soaked melody goes by pleasantly until its final minute, where she lets go of her apprehensions over a barbed guitar riff. It’s a lovely finish that caresses your ears with a weightless glow.

New Track: “Underline” – The Insides
Before hitting the road with Rich People next week, The Insides released a new single. “Underline” is guided by the instrumental thrust of the power trio, countered by the softer, melodic aggression expressed in the lead vocals. Those juxtaposing elements provide an emotive energy that can be felt through your headphones/speakers. It surges in a place of solitude.
Oakland’s Normies release “Space” & play Eli’s Mile High Club (4.13)
There’s something very genuine that comes across in the debut single “Space” (streaming below) by the new Oakland post-punk outfit Normies. Besides being easy listening, the track is well-crafted from top to bottom, without losing the lo-fi appeal. The vocals rise and fall alongside the driving guitar parts, all while maintaining a dreamy appeal. This track is a strong start for the three-piece, and leaves us excited for what’s next. You can find them tomorrow (April 13th) at Eli’s Mile High Club, alongside Freak No Hitter, Scrim, and Screaming. – Lilly Milman
Jordan Chism delivers dreamy pop on “Horoscopes”
Looking for a song that combines the ’50s crooner stylings heard at the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance with light and airy synths? I thought so. Well, Nashville’s Jordan Chism has delivered just that on her single "Horoscopes", written for an indie film titled The Boogeywoman, described as "a coming of age story about the horrors and wonders of becoming a woman." Well, there’s nothing horrific about Chism’s dreamy pop offering here, just sweet melodies and chill vibes. – Chris Thiessen
Buzz Alert! Bodega announces debut album “Endless Scroll” + unveils new video
NYC’s romance with Post Punk is not over yet, and we ain’t gonna complain about it. The seminal movement from the 80’s that triggered the first wave of creative yet minimalist DIY rock already influenced a slew of break-out local artists including Interpol, The Rapture, Liars, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Parquet Court among others. In the last few months, quintet Bodega (previously known as Bodega Bay) has made progress to potentially add their name to this list, gaining a lot of attention both in the city and at SXSW with their super-fun live performances enhanced by musical wild card Nikki Belfiglio’s, an effervescent backing vocalist that also plays a range of percussive instruments. The trademark of the band’s stripped down but driven sound, however, lies with Ben Hozie’s semi spoken-word style of singing. The band just unveiled this video for single "Can’t Knock the Hustle" and announced the released of their debut album Endless Scroll, scheduled for a Jun 1st release. Bodega also landed an opening gig for five Franz Ferdinand shows in April (including the Brooklyn Steel date on the 15th) and will tour Europe in May. Buzz alert, indeed!

Debut Grift Company EP Available for Streaming & Purchase
Wrecking Crew‘s Curly Castro & Zilla Rocca just collaborated on a freshly released, self-titled EP as Grift Company. Throwing back to a point in time when lyricism and flow drove the vehicle in unison with the beat, there’s a grimy, stripped-down authenticity – one that sticks as the crisscrossing, smooth-talking emcees sync ideas as catalysts to chain reactions. One could say it serves as a flashback or a means to remember, but it’s orchestrated through mature, experienced craftsmen, so let’s call it – revitalization.
