Brittany Campbell, Bianca Muñiz and Aberdeen play The Revolution #26 on 04.28

Posted on:

The Revolution, National Sawdust’s monthly appointment with emerging NYC artists, returns on Saturday, April 28th with three artists perfectly complementing each other.

Talented soul pop and visual artist Brittany Campbell, who graced the cover of what will probably be remembered as the weirdest cover of our print magazine (back in 2016), will be the main attraction of the night, joined on stage by brass band Aberdeen‘s dynamic and cinematic instrumentals, and by Bianca Muñiz‘s delicate but somewhat troubled soul ballads.

Tickets and info can be found here, check out a YouTube compilation with two videos per artist, streaming below.

Two Suns – First Track “Forlorn Love” on Fishbum Records Mixtape!

Posted on:

Two Suns are an aggressive psych band from Toronto. Earlier this year they had their first recorded track appear on a mixtape for Fishbum Records which features many of Toronto’s great garage/pysch bands. “Forlorn Love” starts with a real sludge metal intro before ripping into an all out punk assault. The music is in your face and hectic while the overly-reverbed vocals float along occasionally. It’s an absolute headbanger. Two Suns play the Baby G on Saturday April 21st with Crazy Bones and Deaf. – Kris Gies

Heavy psych-rockers Sun Voyager release debut album, play Baby’s All Right on 04.20

Posted on:

Imagine dipping Black Sabbath into a steaming pot of psychedelia and you’re pretty close to the sound of Sun Voyager. On 2015’s Lazy Daze – EP the band made use of heavy metal style riffs to wade through thick servings of reverb and distortion to occasionally shoegazey effect. Their debut full-length, Seismic Vibes, looks ready to amp up the psychedelics and deliver an even denser wash of sound and near droning rhythms. With a timely 4-20 release, the trio seems to have no problem with the psych-rock association. You can celebrate with the band when Sun Voyager plays a release show that night at Baby’s All Right, supported by Stuyedeyed. – Cameron Carr

New Track: “Truster” – Bodyguard

Posted on:

Power Animal‘s Megan Gouda and Matt Hampson have a new project that they are calling Bodyguard, a name that "hopes to evoke a sense of support, alliance and emotional safety." Their new single, "Truster," opens in a serene yet suspenseful, synth-laced, night air. The ironed-out brightness of its vocals juxtaposes and brings attention to the track’s hypnotic, introspective lyrics. Keep a lookout for the duo’s forthcoming debut EP Allow Yourself In The Frame

Simeon Ross – Singer/Songwriter’s New Music Video “Arise”

Posted on:

Simeon Ross is a Toronto based singer/songwriter who has been involved in numerous groups and solo projects over the years. He has recently released a brand new single “Arise”. The track sounds like 2000’s British Pop/Rock not too far off from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. The track is well recorded and very radio friendly. Ross shows confidence in the video as he passionately sings in a dark smoky room. Stay tuned for an album announcement from Simeon Ross. – Kris Gies

Ben Caplan’s “Widow Bride” is a noisy nod to eastern European music

Posted on:

Canadian songwriter Ben Caplan’s first single from his new album Old Stock (due out June 15th) is dark, witty, and energetic. Those are three adjectives that wouldn’t normally make sense together, but in context, "Widow Bride" is all three. There is a sense of mystery in the eastern European chordal structure, the lyrics are smart and interesting, and the driving arrangement ties whole track together. Dynamic and confident, "Widow Bride" shows Caplan’s songwriting talent and highlights a gorgeous assortment of textures. –Geena Kloeppel

New Track: “Sun of The City” – BARNES

Posted on:

Barney Cortez, a.k.a. BARNES, recently shared a new single called “Sun of The City,” featuring longtime collaborative partner Nick Bockrath (Cage The Elephant, ex-Nicos Gun/The Rich Mystics) and vocalist Katie Schecter. Acoustic and pedal steel guitar are delicately stitched together as a thought-filled walk unfolds words of wisdom and past events. There’s a duality in the intimate, inviting, folk sound and the chill of individual isolation that the lyrics depict. BARNES is slated to appear this Wednesday, April 18 in NoLibs at Ortlieb’s, with The Mysteries and Lady HD.
