Nashville’s punk rockers Bully playing Mercy Lounge this week!

Posted on:

After releasing their debut in 2015, Bully have earned a national audience with their raw garage punk sound. Their sophomore album Losing released just a few months ago on Sub Pop Records, and they’re out on tour to support the record. Luckily for us in Nashville, they’re playing Mercy Lounge for three days straight! While the Friday (Dec. 15) show with Daddy Issues and Butthole is sold out, you can still catch them Thursday (Dec. 14) with Adia Victoria and Western Medication, or on Saturday (Dec. 16) with Pujol and Sad Baxter. Check the links for tickets, and watch their video for "Feel the Same" below!

Heaven unveils video for “Never the Moment”

Posted on:

If psych rock and shoegaze had a baby, then that baby would probably love the fuzzy indie rock of New York-based Heaven. The quartet subverts the conventions of psychedelia with their focus on lyricism and tight percussion lines, all while maintaining plenty of fuzz. Their songs channel an emotional quality not often seen in psychedelia. The slow, often droning tracks would be perfect for a school dance for stoners (intended in the best way possible, of course). They just unveiled this video for single "Never the Moment," which will be included in their upcoming LP "All Love is Blue," out in March 2018 on Little Cloud Records.  – Lilly Milman

Black Fret Ball 2017 Gives Lifeline to Local Musicians

Posted on:

The Black Fret Ball of 2017 was a genuine cause for celebration, for both musicians receiving grants, and for music fans sitting in the seats at Paramount.  An Austin non-profit that has doled out over $2 million to a variety of Austin music acts, Black Fret empowers local musicians to create music and tour without having the financial pressures and stressors that plague the industry. Founder, Colin Hendrick, was quoted "There is such an amazing depth of talent in this town and we are excited to see such great artists year after year supported by our members in such a meaningful way. This year’s nominees included such talent as Akina Adderley, Black Pistol Fire, Bright Light Social Hour, Carolyn Wonderland, Croy and the Boys, Daniel Eyes, David Ramirez, Eric Tessmer, Los Coast, Jackie Venson, Kinky Machine, Mobley, Sarah Sharp, Warren Hood, Whiskey Shivers, The Deer, and Los Coast. The Black Fret Ball featured amazing performances and collaborations that created as quality entertainment as one would find in Austin, and the money given out in grants ensured that the city will continue to expect more

Sample the indie NYC Hip Hop talent with “LNYCHPIN”

The Iron Chef of Brooklyn-based producers Willie Green and Rapper/Karma Kids labelhead Lt. Headtrip have curated a Michelin worthy taste of NYC’s independent rap scene.  The combination of the seven producers and 16 MCs involved in this project creates a flavor both familiar and fantastically new.  It’s savory like a burger with a steak on top of it with subtle essence of arugula and avocado (because: Brooklyn, you know?), and an aftertaste of Malt liquor and Absynthe.  Following in the heels of brokeMC’s DEADBEATS and Willie Green’s Doc Savage, Hip Hop camaraderie never tasted so good. New Lithuania LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

Bristling with emotive, etching energy, White Reindeer, the new LP from the trio of Lithuania, rained down on us from nowhere yesterday. Nestling unmasked, personal insights amid turmoil, while finding melodic, finishing points, the album steps into the current of chaos, but sees the potential of clearer skies on the horizon. It forecasts hope in the face of a treacherous storm of affairs, in catchy, pertinent, punk-pop potency. You can find Lithuania at Johnny Brenda’s this New Year’s Eve, where they’ll be sharing a billing with local pals The Districts and Pine Barons.

Project Diem brings dreamy synth-pop to Alphaville, 12.13

Posted on:

Project Diem offers a different vision of the synth-pop aesthetic, one of lush melodies countered by delicate synths and soulful vocals. Refreshingly, the vocals are left relatively untouched by reverb and are left to deliver themselves earnestly. The duo works to combine a synth-driven sensibility with an emotional quality that is both raw yet approachable. The "mid-fi" production gives voice to a youthful and surprisingly catchy angst, one that blends in with the changing seasons and failed relationships. Make sure to check out Project Diem at Alphaville, 12.13. – Amanda Ogea
