New Slaughter Beach, Dog LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

Ahead of its official release date, you can now stream and purchase Slaughter Beach, Dog‘s new full-length album Birdie (Lame-O Records). Jake Ewald reinforces his ability to write songs that have an inherent, familiar, folk ease, crafting detail-rich, animated scenes. One naturally transplants himself/herself into the self-evaluating, melancholy-tinged moments, finding a new place of refuge. Next week, Slaughter Beach, Dog will be heading out on a November-spanning tour with Shannen Moser and Walter Etc.

New Track: “Ready Set Rock” – Body Party

Posted on:

Earlier this month, hardcore outfit Body Party released a new album, Who Is Cool, which is available on cassette via Ranch Records. As if shot out of a cannon, its lead track, “Ready Set Rock,” immediately bombards. That sonic storm sets the tone for an all-out expulsion of emotion. Establishing a barrier, the band digs its heels in, and dares anyone to push back.

The 94 Knicks take their garagey indie rock to Elsewhere on 11/6

Posted on:

The 94 Knicks makes the classic type of garagey indie rock that’s at once uplifting and cathartic. The band writes surprisingly poignant lyrics, with songs that feel as if they could have been lifted from the scribbles of your personal journal, however their chunky guitars, command of dynamics, and  lo-fi, fuzzy goodness keep their tunes upbeat and head-bop worthy. Catch the band live at Elsewhere (the new venue by NYC promoters PopGun Presents) on November 6th and, in the meantime, stream their single Street Fighter below.-Olivia Sisinni

Debut Sixteen Jackies EP Available for Streaming

Posted on:

Movie Was Bad, the debut EP from Sixteen Jackies, has recently found its way out into the world. Reassuring vocal warmth is countered by an eerily haunting element, lurking in the distance. However, there is an elegance in the band’s songwriting that collides with a sense of audaciousness, calling to mind such artists as Of Montreal and Ziggy Stardust-era Bowie. The quartet is slated to stir things up this Saturday, October 28 at Spank Banquet’s Halloween Party, with Ceramic Animal, Attic Tapes, and Chifa.

Doe Paoro plays November residency at The Hotel Café

Posted on:

An electric and soul-igniting Doe Paoro has released a new single following the events of the presidential election. Paoro speaks of the moments leading up to the final recording of the song: “I couldn’t sing the words I had written to the song. They were not resonating with the overwhelming heaviness and sadness I felt on that morning.” Though the meaning behind the lyrics is one of outrage, her audience has reaped the benefits. Paoro’s beautiful vocals, similar to Florence Welsh, flows with dreamy ease as the mood turns from soft to powerful with every exciting drum tease and piano melody. As we reflect on the past year, let us meditate to the haunting and inspiring sonnet of "Fading Into Black’."

Paoro has announced a residency at The Hotel Café for the month of November. We hope to see you there. – Kayla Hay

Fade Awaays – Fried Records band rocks the Garrison on 11.11

Posted on:

A member of the Fried Records Roster, Fade Awaays are an indie garage band based in Toronto. They have some straight up hard rock influences too. Almost like the skate rock scene from California. “Who Knows” is the opening track from their self titled EP. It rips with fast guitars, thumpin drums and gang vocals on the chorus. You could absolutely do some kick flips to these tunes. Watch these guys tear up the Garrison on November 11th. – Kris Gies

Lucille Furs @ Beat Kitchen

Posted on:

Psychedelic group Lucille Furs recently released their self-titled debut album. It is available here digitally, but clearly feels like it was meant to be played on vinyl. I would not be surprised if it came that this band were actually mystical time travelers. They don’t just pay tribute to Psych bands of the past but fully embrace the sound and esthetic. However, these songs are not gimmicks, they have an artistic core that can not be overlooked.

You can catch Lucille Furs at Beat Kitchen on November 1st with Frankie and The Witch Fingers and Flash Flash Comfort.

Sam Kogon returns to Brooklyn 11.12 at Baby’s All Right

Posted on:

It’s been just over a year since Sam Kogon released his second album, the retro psych-pop affair Pyschic Tears. After finishing up a summer tour, the vintage gear-aficionado has turned a little quiet—tribute to the Kinks here, another for Tom Petty there, a spare demo to a benefit release a few months back. Maybe the ‘70s rock lover is cooking up something new, who’s to say? Regardless, you’ll be able to catch up when Kogan and crew perform at Baby’s All Right on November 12th. Brace yourselves for the baroque pop melodies and jangling guitars. – CC

From the digital submissions: The Riot Professor release “Stoner” off of the ‘Year of the Mirage’ EP

Posted on:

There is a definite charm harnessed by the scudzy psychedelia of Bay Area band The Riot Professor, who channel the sunny 70s just as much as the contemporary stoner rock movement. In their new (aptly titled) single, “Stoner” (streaming below,) they find the sweet spot in between the two—a catchy, amalgamation of influences that fall together in near-perfect harmonies. It’s a controlled, slow brewing chaos of sound that is at once playful and technical, and is even mirrored in the lyrics ("Everyone’s an echo chamber.") This track comes off their upcoming EP Year of the Mirage, set to be released on October 27th. – Lilly Milman

The Sofas talk about pedals on Delicious Audio

Posted on:

This past summer of 2017, Brooklyn’s The Sofas released their first single "Hum," which immediately resonated with oddball indie rock lovers and fans of those fuzzadelic records from the ’90s bands like Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev were putting out early in their career. Streaming below, the single’s B side, "Rodeo Jones Is Dead." The band is about to release their debut full length "Chop Water" on Jurassic Pop Records; after the fun of "Hum," our attention and curiosity are guaranteed.

The band’s guitarist and bass player shared their thoughts on guitar pedals with our sister blog Delicious Audio, check out the Q&A here!

Video Premiere: Mike Mentz “Someday”

Posted on:

Chicagoan Mike Mentz is on a mission to personally share his music with the world. He is constantly touring and currently has dates lined up in India, Guatemala, Peru and Puerto Rico.

He recently returned home to create a video for his song “Someday”. It is a creative timelapse video, and utilizes our city as a backdrop. We recently got a chance to asked Mike about the video: "We shot the video for Someday almost entirely in timelapse. I wanted the world to literally fly by this guy while he stared at a screen. My sweet home Chicago provided some super vibrant timelapse backdrops. A River North apartment in the sky, walking the Theatre District, Viagra Triangle from above, and Lake Shore Drive all made for wildly cool cinematic playgrounds."

You can catch Mike at Uncommon Ground (Edgewater) on December 16th.
