Parquet Court‘s frontman Andrew Savage has always drawn on influences from the South, but now he’s using his new solo project A. Savage to turn up the Western heat. While Parquet Court made use of twangy guitars and Savage’s rough, cowboy-like vocals, his upcoming solo album Thawing Dawn uses pointed track titles like "Buffalo Calf Road Woman" and "Wild Wild Horses" to send a clearly Western, nostalgic image. The first single "Winter in the South" (streaming below) retains the mystery of Parquet Court, but is also more organic, rumbling, and lonesome. Texas tour dates begin this week and Thawing Dawn will be out on October 13th. – Allie Miller
The Deli LA Premieres: KRON, Raptoid EP album stream
The Deli is delighted to premiere the second release by electronic trio KRON, entitled Raptoid. KRON began their life as the house band for Ghosting.TV, a monthly event held in a Chinatown warehouse that highlights a select number of experimental audio visual projects by different artists of the local art scene. Raptoid brings forth a vibrant concoction of throbbing synth patterns with clever wizardry. Equally informed by horror movie soundtracks and acid techno, among others, the EP’s eight unrelenting tracks propel forward with shapeshifting grooves that are both danceable and cerebral.
Raptoid comes out on August 11 via Ring the Alarm. The trio will also host a free release party tomorrow located at 2026 E 1st St.
New Track: “Accidentally Like A Martyr” (Warren Zevon Cover) – The War On Drugs
Hometown heroes The War On Drugs have a new album coming out on August 25 via Atlantic Records, entitled A Deeper Understanding. To help warm up for their upcoming North American/European tour, the band played an intimate performance on June 8, 2017 at the beloved Bowery Ballroom, and while in NYC, they also stopped by Spotify Studios to lay down some promotional recordings, which included a cover of Warren Zevon’s "Accidentally Like A Martyr" (below), off his 1978 album Excitable Boy. You can catch The War On Drugs performing next in Philly on Thursday, September 21 at the Dell Music Center.
Tempers open for Frankie Rose at Babys All Right 08.12
If there’s anything more fitting to a late summer night in New York than some dark synth-pop, I’d like to hear it. Atmospheric duo Tempers‘ recent release Fundamental Fantasy is a suspenseful, yet shimmering LP that evokes that psychological world of obscure possibilities inspired by city like New York on a Friday night, when nothing seems forbidden. The band’s sound, a meeting of the moodiest Depeche Mode with both The XX and Beach House, is like a faded memory you shouldn’t have forgotten about. Stop whatever you are doing and let it transport you. Tempers will celebrate the end of their Euro-Mexico tour this Saturday, August 12th at Baby’s All Right, opening at Frankie Rose’s record release show. – Allie Miller
Celeste Krishna’s ‘Prelude Red’ is a foot-tapping, body pulsing breakthrough record
"Call up the devil / tell him I’m ready to make deal / meet me in downtown New York / I wanna be young again," proclaims Celeste Krishna on "Call up the Devil." The Brooklyn based artist has forged a intriguing atmospheric avant-indie-dance sound on her new album Prelude Red, that’s more sincere than anything else you might want to tap your feet and sway along to. But that doesn’t mean the music isn’t grounded- there are various field-recordings inserted at the end of each track, of personal conversations and the typical New York subway "stand clear of the closing doors please!" semi-robotic warning. Krishna is also releasing a digital record player for the album in November- "When you go to the player site, the starting point of the album will be random but it will retain its sequence – this way there isn’t a particular beginning or end to the album." –Geena Kloeppel
The Roofer’s Union hit Pianos 08.10
Tomorrow (August 10th), Brooklyn band The Roofer’s Union will be hitting the stage at Pianos. The band’s most recent track came out this past April; “Closer” is a fun number blending many different genres over a consistent alt-rock vibe. The track begins with a busy, groovy drum pattern, reminiscent of Lewis Del Mar’s beginning beat on “Painting (Masterpiece)” and develops through an inventive arrangement that exploits the rapid dynamics of the musical style known as "Staccato." Unpredictability is given priority in pretty much every part, drums excluded (unpredictable drums seldom work, anyway) – and The Deli will always dig that. Come check out the band’s performance at 10 PM at Pianos. – Pearse Devlin
No Men bring noise punk to Hideout 08.11
Chicago’s noise punk band No Men will be bringing their ferocious sound to The Hideout on August 11th. The band’s badass name is reflective of their daring style, especially on their track “Hell Is Real” off of Dear God, Bring The Doom from 2016. The track’s threatening lyrics are delivered in rant style over a quick punkish intro. Spoken female vocals kick into a surprisingly catchy chorus, but that doesn’t last long; the noise rock side erupts, as the guitars and drums lose complete control, a really cool blend of going from catchy to ballistic; check out their rowdy single below, as well as their upcoming performance. – Pearse Devlin
New Track: “Test Dreaming” – Matt Haslett
Matt Haslett (Sacagawea and The Hunters) released a new single via Strange Bird Records. Slow-burning into the psychedelic, “Test Dreaming” doesn’t bombard one’s headspace. Rather, it ruminates as one assimilates to the hypnotic rhythm, momentarily splintering into space-age threads without overriding the guidance system.

Coyote Run venture into the open road with country-folk jaunt “Again Again”
Coyote Run build things quick on "Again Again," a country-folk jaunt with a cosmic, honky-tonk feel that immediately draws you in. The main project of Oceanside-based singer Katie Shahbaz skips a formal introduction and forges a locked groove, ramping up a vocal harmony that brushes against her honeyed voice. Shahbaz also lets it shred in the final portion with a bluesy solo that is set off at just the right time, as it fades out just the way it started. With a winding rhythm that could go on and on (or again and again?), Shahbaz’s sense of longing portrays a fitting compliment to that dry summer drive; it’s a two-minute romp that ends much too soon.
"Again Again" is the first single off of Shahbaz’s debut full-length, Infinite Disappearance of Fear, which is set for release in October. – Juan Rodríguez

Get Serenaded by Eyes of Love’s bedroom folk-rock at The Glove on 08.09
From the beloved Greenpoint label that’s already crowded with talented groups like Macula Dog, Palberta, The Sediment Club, and Honey, comes Eyes of Love. The brainchild behind this solo, bedroom folk-rock project is NYC-based, LA-born musician Andrea Schiavelli, ex occasional member of now disbanded Nude Beach and ex-member of Punks on Mars. Andrea has been making music under that somewhat misleading moniker since 2011. His latest self-titled EP features simple song with witty lyrics, plenty of charm, and a rather casual performing attitude that screams "lo-fi!". Hopeful lyrics, rippling keyboard melodies, strolling bass lines and major key guitar parts (like in "If We Could Be Fools") showcase west coast influences that make this record more optimistic than his previous works. Songs like "I Know Everything" (although Lou Reed-esque to a fault) and opening track "Love Possession" (streaming) can restore your faith in the future of this guy’s microcosm, during the oppressive middle ages of politics affecting our macrocosm. Andrea also has a forthcoming split record with Lily Konigsberg, coming out later this month. Don’t miss his live performance at NYC’s The Glove tomorrow (08.09) – Allie Miller
