Grazer is a pyschadelic heavy soul band. Sounds intense. They have a trippy EP out there right now titled "Pachyderm". The title track kicks it off with a deep, dragging guitar lick. It’s tone is mesmerizing. The tune takes a turn about 2 and a half minutes in when they fire it up and the drummer gets excited. How bout some dual guitar solos? Done. Funk bass licks? Done. The vocals sound like something from the late 80’s/early 90’s phase that was in between hair metal and grunge. This epic 7 plus minute tune will keep you guessing. Savants celebrate 7″ release party tomorrow at Cape House
Brooklyn’s Savants is the living proof that it is possible to play a slacking variety of rock’n’roll without sounding like Pavement or Dinosaur Jr. – hurrah! We are particularly fond of the quartet’s recent single ‘Sneak E. Gardner’ (streaming below), part of a split 7" with Californian label mates Tomorrow Tulips. The track’s minimalist approach and rustic production conjure up an atmonsphere that’s at once intense and playful, but always extremely musical. Savant will be celebrating the release of a new 7" tomorrow (April 26th) at Cape House, with other deserving locals Sam Kogon and Toyzanne, and Philadelphia’s Needle Points.

Toma Steps Into The Spotlight With “Going Nowhere”
Toma is tracking towards an exciting year. The quartet just released their debut album, Aroma, and it’s not too early to say that something special is brewing. One of the band’s first singles "Going Nowhere" is indicative of the band’s ethos and influences – deftly drawing from an eclectic trove of influences, yet ultimately rendering addictive originality. James Petralli, of White Denim, adds polish to the confectioned pop that exudes urgent excitement with a tinge of psychedelia. Singer/guitarist, Willy Jay, displays faded yet poignant vocals that sail over an italo-influenced synth line, while Jake Hiebert’s urgent backbeat injects adrenaline into the dance-laden track. "Going Nowhere", and Aroma as a whole, has an undebiable infectiousness that merely scratches the surface of what seems to be a deep well of potential that Toma has in store. Lets not put the cart before the horse, but given the quality of their music, it certainly seems like this should be the band’s last self-released album.

Dreamy witch-house on new Den-Mate EP
Haunting, gratifying, and very indie, Den-Mate‘s Entropii is a pleasing blend of Icelandic dream rock and the sounds of synthwave/witch-house pioneers Crystal Castles. With an eerie aesthetic that is very much 2010s-dark indie, Den-Mate is making music that is not only very trendy, but also quite high-level. This is quality material, well produced, full of crisp and clean melodies clashing with unsettling backing tracks.
The impressive craftsmanship on display here is a sign of the young Virginia native’s potential, Den-Mate is definitely a band to look out for in the near future.

Radiator King brings intense folk to Bowery Electric on 4.29
Brooklyn folk/punk troubadour Radiator King (Adam Silvestri) has a lot to tell us about being on the road. "You meet people, you have these connections with strangers you’d never cross paths with if you weren’t playing a show… when you’re traveling, you can’t help but notice how vast this country is." And his music certainly portrays the grit of touring and the diversity of his experiences: it’s rough around the edges. Radiator King has taken different elements of America’s homegrown genres, namely rock and Americana, to shape that beaten-up, worn-yet-lively sound.
