The Truants Release Two Singles – Wasted Youth & Millennial
The San Francisco based post punk band, The Truants are a breath of fresh air as their vintage punk sounds bring a welcomed dose of nostalgia to any punk music aficionado. New music lovers will be into these songs just as much as The Truants’ sound can skate across eras, giving them the ability to touch listeners of different ages and music tastes. Check out their newest singles, Wasted Youth and Millenial. Both songs are about the folly of youth and reality of growing up in a generation of gentrification and the modern age. The guitar riffs and vocals are epic and their entire sun drenched, angry punk aesthetic is appealing and hard to ignore.
New Loose Tooth Album Available for Streaming & Purchase
Released via Lame-O Records and Father/Daughter Records, Big Day, the new album from Loose Tooth, will shake you out of your Monday zombie-like state. The quartet plays off juxtaposing emotive states, languishing in melodic desolation and then smashing ahead in an agitated state of aggression. Consistently shifting gears, the band creates a brutally catchy record. On Saturday, April 29 at Cat House, Loose Tooth will be taking part in the recently announced, multi-venue showcases of Alright? Okay Fest, presented by Lockjaw Media.
New Poor Devils EP Available for Streaming & Purchase
Psych/surf/garage rockers Poor Devils sound like they are up to no good on their new EP Idaho. From the get-go, a dark cloud hovers over the outlaw tales strung together by the Philly four-piece. It’s a menacing yet mesmerizing batch of recordings that’s the perfect soundtrack for a good night of drinkin’, brawlin’, and even a little lovin’. Simply badass!

Dark Thoughts S/T LP Being Reissued via Get Better Records
Adrenalized, rowdy, instantly catchy punk that sprints from the start, Dark Thoughts‘ self-titled album doesn’t let up. About a year after its vinyl/digital release on Stupid Bag Records, the LP is scheduled to be reissued on cassette/digital via Get Better Records on April 20. The band finds a balance between ripping aggression and enthusiastic adhesion. Step out of that late week sleepwalking state, and kick things into high gear.
Bursting with creativity: Eclectic psych-pop on Poppy Patica’s debut EP
The liner notes to Poppy Patica‘s debut release, Tripping None, claim that the music is a blend of modern experimental pop and 80’s pop/punk. However, listening to this EP for the first time I was overwhelmed by memories not of listening to 80’s music for the first time, but rather of listening to of Montreal’s first album Cherry Peel, released in 1997. What came across to me on this album was the sound of 90s- indie legends like of Montreal, The Unicorns, and Deerhoof/hunter.
From the heart twinging chord changes on “Sink” to the lo-fi buzz of “Top”, this release modernizes some of the best elements of 90’s indie pop, and the result is truly wonderful.
A great debut from DC’s Poppy Patica.

Impressive musicianship from Savage, MD power metal group Burning Shadows
Savage, Maryland based (seriously) power metal outfit Burning Shadows returns with their third full length release, Truth in Legend. True to the power metal penchant for symphonic tales of medieval era non-fiction and fantasy, Truth in Legend features songs about Norse mythology, the execution of the Knights Templar, and a song inspired by the game Skyrim. Whether power metal is your thing or not, the musicianship on this album is impressive. There is nary a guitar riff that doesn’t line up perfectly with the tight, driving drum/bass beats; and the lead singer moves through upper and lower registers with ease.
Here is “Day of Darkness” from Burning Shadow’s latest release, Truth in Legend.

New Track: “Dark Times” – Commonwealth Choir
Know Hope Records recently issued a compilation to benefit the ACLU. Solidarity in Sounds features 22 songs from 22 bands, and "Dark Times" was contributed by Commonwealth Choir. The track serves as a gritty, bass-driven point of opposition, stepping forward when things aren’t right. It captures the band’s omnipresent ability to find a good hook; however, this message is delivered with a show of force and some snarl. Give it a spin, and stick together in supporting the ACLU.
