Bells Atlas Shares New Single – N C A T

Posted on:

The Oakland based band, Bells Atlas has released a new single entitled, N C A T!

With a full length and two EPs released since forming in late 2012, Oakland-based pop-soul band Bells Atlas are gearing up to drop a new standalone single, “NCAT.” The track release comes timed with the Bells Atlas’ upcoming run of dates with the WNYC/NPR program Snap Judgment serving as the house band during live recordings.

Attempting to neatly describe the sounds that Derek Barber (guitar) Geneva Harrison (drums, percussion, keys) Sandra Lawson-Ndu (vocals, percussion, keys) and Doug Stuart (bass, vocals, keys) produce together is no easy task. Kaleidoscopic and richly layered, each new foray by the band expands the wide, colorful sonic palette from which they paint dazzling, vibrant structures from.

"Nothing Comes After This (NCAT) is about the feeling when you know a relationship has run it’s course. All of the little things have added up to something so big that they have eclipsed the light that the relationship once brought. It touches on feeling both empowered and heartbroken, because change is rarely easy."

This V-Day week go see KINGS at The Camel

Posted on:

A project of Richmond, Virginia based singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalists Kelli Strawbridge (KSTRAW) and DJ Harrison, KINGS is high-tier funk made by experienced musicians. KSTRAW, who has shared the stage with Grammy award winning musicians Snarky Puppy and Terrance Simean, brings a sense of urgent eroticism to the vocals while DJ Harrison keeps the effects heavy sound crunchy but cohesive.

Don’t miss KINGS with New York’s Escaper February 17th at The Camel in Richmond, Virginia.

New Music Video: “Cops Come Looking” – The Spirit of the Beehive

Posted on:

Federico Casanova sequences a set of dim imagery in the video for “Cops Come Looking” by The Spirit of the Beehive. The song is the latest snippet from the band’s forthcoming album, Pleasure Suck, scheduled for release on March 24 via Tiny Engines. The video exhibits a desire to hide and/or escape. Movement via flight or automobile serves as a common thread with variations of swimming providing a twisted framework. The Spirit of the Beehive will be performing next in Philly on Monday, February 20 at Baird Mansion Atrium with Naomi Punk, PC Worship, and YCIB.

New Shelf Life EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

More of Double, the latest EP from Shelf Life, stirs, led in most part by strumming acoustic guitar with flecks of keys/electronics. Open honesty compels in an unguarded manner as the lyrics dig deep below the surface. These pared-back songs pull one closer, placing the spotlight on the lyrics and leaving it open to interpretation. The overall feel is endearing. Soak in the delicate melancholy remembrance, and head out to All Night Diner this Friday, February 10, where Shelf Life is slated on a bill that also includes Brittle Brian, Chef Kiss, and Microsoft Saint.

Psychic Selves blend psych, pop and punk, play Shea Stadium on 2/15

Posted on:

In 2016, Brooklyn’s indie psych rockers Psychic Selves released a quality 7 song mini-album entitled "Lucid Night.".  While the band continues working on new material and plays select live shows, these tracks provides ample opportunity for immersion into their sound. Opening track “Ratio” is dual guitar riff driven, as flange-effects pair against brighter tones, recreating surf/psychedelic vibes reminiscent of early Beach Fossils.  Featured single “Goodnight Luna” (streaming below) builds off that foundation, emphasizing melodic hooks via a note-for-note matched vocal phrasing and guitar figure. With the chorus transitioning into a smoother vocal phase, bass guitar and drums provide the driving force on its latter half double-time cadence.  Pitch-bended melancholia emerge on instrumentals “And the Truth Pt 1 + 2,”pop elements on vocal heavy “Masochist” and punk aggression on both “War Head” and “Crazy Tasty.” Psychic Selves play Shea Stadium on 2/15 with Wolf Diamond, The Rizzos and Lunch Ladies. – Dave Cromwell

Math the Band (The Band) Hits The Middle East Upstairs 2/18

Posted on:

Not to be confused with Math the Band (those guys are retired), Math the Band The Band is a 6-piece electro-punk band from Providence that brings a consistently catchy, youthful, synth-heavy brand of punk rock to the New England scene (think Bomb the Music Industry, but more infectious).  Formed over 15 years ago by songwriting duo, Kevin Steinhauser and Justine Mainville, Math the Band (the Band) has grown and evolved into a major voice, both locally and nationally.  An auditory sugar rush, these guys are guaranteed to tear the roof off of any venue, including the Middle East, where they will be performing on 2/18 with Old Table, Request Freebird, and Ben Hersey. –Brian Varneke

THE LAD CLASSIC – “WHO” VIDEO

Posted on:

Toronto rockers The Lad Classic are back with a brand new music video. These guys bring it back to when rock n’ roll was cool and rockstars were still a thing. Ben Healey can absolutely rip a guitar over top of their very talented rhythm section. Meanwhile Paul on vocals will hit notes you can’t even dream of. They could take the place of Slash’s band and if you closed your eyes you might not know the difference. If you like rock n roll the way it used to be then get ready for The Lad Classic’s new album "Rectifier" dropping in a few weeks. You can pre-order the album on their website now. Their CD release party goes down at the Rivoli on March 4th. Here’s their latest video "Who". – Kris Gies

New Beat Jams EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

From its opening moments DOG, the new EP from Beat Jams, lures one in immediately. The hypnotic, deep-churning, bass-driven beats and Carolyn Wayne’s bewitching vocals comingle in a sometimes riotous, other times seductive, danceable manner. The five-song collection feels both grimy and infectious, a potent punk-garage resin that sticks in your head and feels freeing. Beat Jams will be opening Louie Louie‘s record release celebration for their debut LP Friend of a Stranger this Friday, February 10 at PhilaMOCA, along with Dark Web.
