The Deli’s Best Emerging Philly Artists’ Poll Begins With… the Indie Rock Category!

Posted on:

Dear Deli Readers,

Every year, in the early months, The Deli polls several local music enthusiasts/experts to ask their opinion about the best emerging Philly-based artists that got them excited in the previous twelve months. We, therefore, list these artists on our local homepage, in a Readers’ Poll, whose results contribute in deciding The Deli Philly’s Artist of the Year.

In an effort to give you more time to check out all the nominated bands this year, we have decided to stretch the readers’ polls a little, and instead of posting a huge list of artists all at once, we will activate one genre-related poll every five days or so.

We begin today with bands in the Indie Rock category! You can find the poll at the top right of our homepage, and you can cast your vote HERE.

We see our yearly polls as a fun way to engage our readers and the artists involved, and we hope that they will get both to discovery new local acts who deserve attention.

Much love,

The Folks at The Deli

P.S. To group all artists in these categories, we had to "stretch" things a little for a few of the artists that didn’t precisely fit any of the wide musical umbrellas most other acts fell under – we hope that we can be forgiven for that.

Deli Readers,

Every year, in the early months, The Deli polls several local "scenemakers" to ask their opinion about the best emerging NYC based artists that got them excited in the previous year. New Track: “Comfort Chain” – Instupendo

Posted on:

Instupendo, a.k.a. Aidan Peterson, carries a tune that feels well-handled but open at the seams, displaying a fine attention to detail that produces a roving vignette over a shifting sonic landscape. He recently shared "Comfort Chain," a track that offers a moment to pause and reflect in a way that feels soothing rather than drowsy. Peterson is working on an EP that’s set to release this spring, but in the meantime, you can catch him tomorrow night at Kung Fu Necktie, where he’ll be performing with Bucolic, Dizzyride, and Lokomoko.

Alexander F brings explosive garage pop to Baby’s All Right on 02.11 for LP release

Posted on:

Alexander F is electric, loud, and something that you’re not likely to forget, and from the opening bass hits of new single "Swimmers," you can tell that they’re here to get rowdy. The Brooklyn-based garage pop band offers wild musings on the absurdity of life, but serve it up with a side punk snarls and raucous beats–yeilding a sound that’s as fun and unhinged as it is utterly catchy. Check them out at Baby’s All Right 2/11 alongside Total Slacker, Exhibition, and Really Big Pinecone for their new record release, but do yourself a favor and stream them below in the meantime. – Olivia Sisinni

Dream poppers Lunch Ladies unveil new single, play Shea Stadium on 02.15

Lucky for us that this NYC centric blog also covers New Jersey based artists… Yes because in recent years the Garden State has been churning out a lot of really talented indie pop bands, and we would be sorry if we couldn’t highlight them. Lunch Ladies have been around since 2014 and belong to the "dream" branch of the most melodious of genres. Their music revolves around gentle, uptempo, electric orchestrations, but finds its overall tone through Cynthia Rittenbach’s uber melancholic melodies. The band just unveiled new single ‘Pick Yourself Up,’  from upcoming sophomore full length ‘Down on Sunset Strip,’ scheduled for a March release. New Yorkers will be able to see them live at Shea Stadium on February 15th.

Check Out the New Music Video for Greyson Anderson’s Cover of Sheryl Crow’s “If It Makes You Happy”

Posted on:

Vocalist and frontman, Greyson Anderson, briefly departs from the grungy conventions of the Nashville hard rock staple, Dogs of Oz, to cover a country classic. Though he stays true to the cathartic, sentimental characteristics of the tune, his heavier sonic influences can be detected. Playing and recording all the instruments himself, Anderson blends elements of his brand of Nashville garage/grunge with an unapologetic pop vocal sensibility. The video, featuring Anderson at a variety of locations aound Nashville, paints a picture of an unabashed young rocker willing to own an enthusiasm that might prove unsexy in a somtimes hyper-self-consciously hip rock scene. – Andrew Strader

DC based Nitemoves opens for Tycho during early 2017 tour

Posted on:

DC electronic musician Nitemoves is starting 2017 on the right foot, opening for ambient electronic all-stars Tycho on a tour of East Asia and Australia. The Tycho+Nitemoves bill makes for a wonderful pairing of Tycho’s boundary pushing, emotionally charged ambient electronic, and Nitemoves’ blend of classic house sounds and pathos heavy futuristic soundscapes. With the music of both artists suitable for both bedroom listening and drug-laden trance fests, their work represents some of the best intelligence dance music has to offer. A promising and versatile artist, Nitmoves may be well on his way to joining the upper echelons of the international electronic music scene. Check out Nitemoves’ album “Don’t Ask” released in October, 2016.

PREMIERE: Rafael Vigilantics – “Ramblin’ Bones”

Posted on:

Blending folk, neo-soul and hip hop in a broodingly mysterious yet openly raw manner, Rafael Vigilantics shares with us a new haunting and emotional track titled "Ramblin’ Bones." Co-written with Noah Harmon of Airborne Toxic Event, "Ramblin’ Bones" tells a tale of long living with the skeletons in our closet. Captured with relatable lyrics and captivating with its video visuals, "Ramblin’ Bones" shares a struggle we’ve all gone through – not being able to let our demons go.

On making the track, Rafael Vigilantics says "’Ramblin’ Bones’ is about never being able to quite go home or leave behind the things that haunt us, about how a fresh start seems to only come from the deepest and most brutal of fires."

Even though we can’t escape what ills us, we can at least escape into Rafael Vigilantics’ beautifully shot video. Watch it below.

The Deli Philly’s Featured Artist(s) Poll Winner: Tinmouth

Posted on:
A former hardcore drummer, Guitar Center kid, and gal with “the rage” want to form a band so they head over to Craigslist… Though that might sound like the beginning of an odd, dirty joke, that’s the scenario that lies at the origin of our recent Featured Artist(s) Poll Winner, Tinmouth. Timothy Tebordo (guitar/vocals), Aaron Sternick (bass/vocals), and Alyssa Shea (drums/vocals) have been working on their upcoming album, Surprise Time, for the past year and a half with Dave Downham at Gradwell House, and are “pretty psyched” to drop it this spring. Check out what else they’ve been up to and what they are all about in our latest interview with the Philly indie rock trio HERE!
