New Track: “Fired In The Morning” – The Bad Larrys

Posted on:

The quintet of The Bad Larrys breach the subject of rippin’ and rockin’ into the wee hours with their single, "Fired In The Morning". Set off by a relentless bassline, the song serves as a joyous garage/punk ode that boozily resonates. While lyrically depicting the necessity to reel in/calm down from a rollicking night, its energy may trigger the converse – a desire to escape the monotony of the daily grind and get down. You’ll be able to find "Fired In The Morning" on the band’s upcoming debut EP, Exposing Racket, recorded at Valley Ride Co. and is due out this spring.

Debut Street Stains Album Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

Washington Post music critic and former Q and Not U multi-instrumentalist, Chris Richards, started laying down material in the summer of 2008 with Pissed Jeans drummer Sean McGuiness (while watching the Olympics). The recordings remained dormant for nearly half a decade until the duo recruited Aaron Leitko (A Day In Black And White, Protect-U) and his Tascam-388 to help fill out its sound, before also capturing Richards’s vocals. The songs were once again forgotten about, until the group came together in the spring of 2015 to mix down the numerous tracks in hand. You can now listen to their self-released, self-titled fourteen-song album, available under the moniker of Street Stains. We are really happy that these recordings are finally seeing the light of day!

Yearly Best Emerging Austin Artists’ Poll begins with Electronic Category!

Posted on:

Dear Deli Readers,

Every year, in the early months, The Deli polls several local music enthusiasts/experts to ask their opinion about the best emerging Austin-based artists that got them excited in the previous twelve months. We, therefore, list these artists on our local homepage, in a Readers’ Poll, whose results contribute in deciding The Deli Austin’s Artist of the Year.

In an effort to give you more time to check out all the nominated bands, this year we have decided to stretch the readers’ polls a little, and instead of posting a huge list of artists all at once, we will activate one genre-related poll every five days or so.

The first poll of the series is all about electronic local acts! You can find it at the top right of our homepage, and you can cast your vote HERE.

We see our yearly polls as a fun way to engage our readers and the artists involved, and we hope that everybody involved will get to discover new local acts who deserve attention.

Much love,

The Folks at The Deli

P.S. To group all artists in these categories, we had to "stretch" things a little for a few of the artists that didn’t precisely fit any of the wide musical umbrellas most other acts fell under – we hope that we can be forgiven for that.

New Blood Sound Double LP Available for Streaming & Download

Posted on:

Prolific darkwavers Blood Sound have provided us with plethora of shimmering, new tunes to dance alone to in our bedrooms during these bleak days under a Trump administration. Or maybe you just might want to blast them loud and proud at the "Queer Rager" dance party happening outside the Loews hotel in Center City Philly this evening (from 7:30-9:30) to protest the proposed repeal of the Affordable Care Act and the unwanted visit from Donny "Small Hands" and his spineless Republican congressional delegation to our City of Brotherly Love. True Romance Magazine is a double LP with its first half composed mostly of synths and the second focused on compositions that are predominately made up of guitar and bass. You can take both for a spin below, and don’t miss Blood Sound opening for Black Marble on Monday, February 6 at Johnny Brenda’s.

The Casey Hopkins Duo delivers bare-faced rock ‘n’ roll on “Touch EP”

Posted on:

The Casey Hopkins Duo has a huge sound for a two man project. The Brooklyn-based band plays unapologetic, bluesy rock ‘n’ roll with a brazen swagger and an eye to psych bands of the late 60’s. Their latest release, Touch EP, was recorded to tape and has all the warmth and crackle of an old rock record, but the addition of some sinisterly fuzzy guitars keeps the band sounding unlike classic-rock, copycat acts. That and singer Casey Hopkins’s crazy charismatic vocals make The Casey Hopkins Duo a must-listen. Stream them below. – Olivia Sisinni, Photo by Sacha Lecca

Little Boxer are a 4 piece Toronto rock band belonging to Dungus Records. Last year they released 4 EP’s! So they’re busy fellas to say the least. Their latest "Volume IV" was dropped in October. All of these albums are available on their bandcamp page. Best bet is to buy em all and hear for yourself how the band navigated through 2016. Little Boxer will be playing the Horseshoe Tavern on January 26th – Kris Gies

Zook Drops a Lo-Fi, Psychedelic Folk Surprise

Posted on:

We stumbled upon this beautiful mesh of of lo-fi, psychedelic, garage rock, and country and couldn’t help sharing it. Carrots is an EP that draws on a whole plethora of genres and musical elements to craft something remarkably fresh. Groovy acoustic guitar rhtyhms draw on the retro psychedelic, folk rock traits of bands like T. Rex and The Brian Jonestown Masssacre while tiny tin-can, creepy, distorted vocals prove reminiscent of more recent lo-fi outfits like King Tuff. The songs periodically veer off into saccharine, psychedelic instrumentals, rising and falling into crescendos of reversed guitar riffs. It’s as if someone found a way to make jam bands less tiresome, indulging in the blissful potential of a guitar solo with enough taste to know when to bring it back home. There’s virtually nothing online about this guy. He’s got a facebook page with two likes and a bandcamp account, but with a first release like this, let’s hope we hear more from him soon. – Andrew Strader

Keeps Contributes to Benefit Compilation Album to Fund the ACLU

Posted on:

Nothing produces high quality music quite like activism. Nashville psych rockers, Keeps, contributed to a compilation album released by Knoxville based label, Gezellig Records, from which all proceeds go to benefit the American Civil Liberties Union. Its roster contains a wide variety of artists, including indie favorites like Surfer Blood, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and Mount Eerie, all coming together in support of an increasingly relevant and important organization. You can download the album on bandcamp or buy it straight from the Gezellig Records site and feel really good about it. – Andrew Strader
