New Track: “FOAM” – Sun Airway

Posted on:

Sun Airway delighted listeners with their 2010 debut LP Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier (Dead Oceans), so much so that it earned them The Deli Philly’s Artist of the Year honors. However, after their 2012 follow-up Soft Fall (Dead Oceans), from our talks with frontman Jon Barthmus, it sounded like he was ready to leave behind the life of a struggling musician on the road for a simpler one at home, after all he had already spent years fronting his previous band Vagrant Records’ The A-Sides. Thankfully, it didn’t mean that he completely stopped recording music. Though Barthmus would now prefer Sun Airway to be strictly a studio project, we are very excited to hear the first single, "FOAM" (below), from its upcoming release Heraldic Black Cherry, which is currently scheduled to be self-released early next year.

NYC’s psych rockers Museyroom play at Mercury Lounge on 12/9

Posted on:

This past summer, three-piece band Museyroom released a psychedelic video for the song “Ranges” off the LP ‘Pearly Whites’. The track’s edgy arrangement, with its quirky elements and droney ambience, lays out the groundwork for this video’s striking imagery: a woman strolls through a forest in winter time, immersed in a vivid musical journey that intertwines faded naturalistic scenes with color-bursting animation and visual effects that ebb, flow, and transform. Check it out down below and catch Museyroom live at the Mercury Lounge on December 9. –Ashley Muniz

We added this song to The Deli’s playlist of Best psych songs by emerging NYC artists – check it out!

Wistappear releases new track “Overflowed”

Posted on:

Eclectic songwriting duo Wistappear are back with "Overflowed", a lively and altogether inventive folk-rock track where they sharpen their feel for dynamics with an acute sense of songcraft. There’s a freewheeling playfulness that evokes the woodsy, more eccentric side of psychedelia, complemented with a variety of sonic trinkets that further reinforce singer Ian Lipson’s colorful vocal delivery.

"Overflowed" is the first single off of their recently released full-length record Knack for Whatever. You can now listen to it in its entirety over at their bandcamp page.

The Wild Now Achieve Rare Chemistry On Debut Release

Posted on:

Taylor Baker met Drew Walker at a Local Natives concert in 2013 and as fate would have it, a baby would arise from the chance meeting. There is no actual toddler to speak of, but the metaphorical musical synthesis that call themselves, The Wild Now, have had their momentum snowball with the release of their debut EP, Gold Dust. The talented duo self-describe their sound as ‘indie gelato’, which proves accurate as they embrace a swirl of influences including pop, folk, alt-rock, and even electronica. Taylor’s vocals have an impressive soulful depth that can either effortlessly dominate or perfectly compliment Drew’s dexterous guitar riffing. The six-track EP has a confident intimacy that eschews sensationalism and embraces a more roots-based songwriting dynamic. Tracks like "Salt" and "Gold Dust" project subtle brilliance while "New Eyes" and "Seek" have chorus swells that quicken the pulse with fortified guitars, horns, and synths. The chemistry of The Wild Now is rare in it’s fluidity and ease, and with many upcoming local shows, Austinites should be thankful to see this duo hone their craft in our backyard before they are lost to an inevitable national audience.

BARBAROSA – “EYE OF THE RABBIT”

Posted on:

Barbarosa are a 4 piece indie rock band that started in St.Catharines in 2011. They now call Toronto home and have just released their second album "Eye of the Rabbit". They have a casual sound that is easy to listen to. It’s like indie rock for adults. They have a spanish flair to their sound that make you feel like it’s nicer weather outside. That is definitely the vibes I get from the opening track "Seducer’s Diary." This new album from Barbarosa is available on their bandcamp page and you can be a part of their official release party which goes down on December 8th at Adelaide Hall. – Kris Gies

Active Bird Community release ‘Stick Around’ LP at Shea Stadium on 01.26

Posted on:

Young Brooklyn-based rockers Active Bird Community capture the wearily resigned conversational style of early aughts pioneers The Strokes on recent single “QB Sneak” (streaming below).  The title’s casual football reference serves as metaphor on needing to break out from “two weeks of bad dreams,” and “feeling stuck behind the scenes.”  Avoiding heavy-handed studio enhancements, producer/engineer Christopher Daly allows the band to shine through in a Steve Albini less-is-more approach.  Channeling Julian Casablancas’ phrasing and tone the chugging rhythm and hooky riff guitar interplay wraps up in a tidy under two and a half minutes. Recorded at Salvation Recording in New Paltz with mastering by Jamal Ruhe at Newburgh’s West West Side Music, the full length album titled ‘Stick Around’ is set for release on 1/26.  You can catch them live this Tuesday 12/6 at Berlin NYC with Cosmonaut and Your Dog! and 1/26 at Shea Stadium with Bueno, Fits and PETITE LEAGUE for their record release show. – Dave Cromwell

New Track: “Trails” – Cayetana

Posted on:

Cayetana toured Down Under for the first time earlier this year with Melbourne trio Camp Cope. The ladies bonded on the road, which has led to plans for a joint 7" on hot pink and splattered color vinyl. The split release is due out on January 20 via Poison City Records, but you can take a listen to Cayetana’s contemplative new single, "Trails," below. The Philly gals will also be performing at the First Unitarian Church on Saturday, February 18 with Lemuria (who are celebrating the 10th anniversary of Get Better) and Mikey Erg.
