Suburban Living will release their new album, Almost Paradise, via 6131 Records this Friday, October 7. Paced by the in-motion interplay of snapping percussion, synth and bass, “Once/Twice,” which you can stream now at GoldFlakePaint, jogs forward in a relationship-dissecting, emotion-exposing, candy-coated haze. Suburban Living performs at The Foundry this Saturday, October 8 in support of Sunflower Bean and The Lemon Twigs.
Shoegaze bill at Mercury on 10.09 with Infinity Girl and Mahogany
Having released their second full length album “Harm” in the summer of 2015, Brooklyn’s Infinity Girl can be found hard at work on their third record. Although no release date has been announced as of yet, the band continue to play select live shows. On Sunday 10/9 they’ll step away from the studio long enough to play a set at the Mercury Lounge, supporting fellow dreamgazers Astrobrite (from Chicago) and ever-evolving headline act Mahogany. While “Harm” shifted away from than their previous noisier work, elements of the C86 jangle pop sound emerged. “Dirty Sun” underscores exactly what was (and still is) so appealing about this timeless sound. A blissful joy is conveyed by the convergence of rapidly strummed guitar over melody driven bass and fast, tom-tom heavy drums. The vocals provide the emotional release through a harmonic beauty evoking feelings of both nostalgia and present day comradery. While waiting for new music to be released, lovers of this should shouldn’t miss Sunday’s show. – Dave Cromwell
New Music Video: “Let Me Get There” (Feat. Kurt Vile) – Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions
Twinkling stars and the calming current of the ocean seen through a noir filter provide the backdrop in the video for “Let Me Get There,” directed by Hope Sandoval herself. Endearingly odd, floating statues mouth the lyrics as the intimate narrative between Sandoval and Kurt Vile unfolds. The song is featured on Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions forthcoming album, Until the Hunter, scheduled for release on November 4 via Tendril Tales.

Mobile Steam Unit set to drop new EP and play Rough Trade
The "our band transcends genres" is one of the most frustrating lines to come across in a band bio, but I’ll be damned if Mobile Steam Unit’s music is easy to wrangle into one of these nice and clearly defined boxes. The Brookyln-based five-piece, whose sound winds through early 90s alt, nudisco, funk, synthpop and country, manages to not only pull off an eclectic auditory tasting, but does so in such a tight way, that you almost forget that what you’re listening to is bananas. It’s all the chaotic goodness you’d never expect, but are stoked to have stumbled on. We’re hyped to hear that the band is dropping a new EP of what’s sure to be highly virtuosic weirdo rock Oct 30th at Rough Trade, opening for RANN. While waiting you can get your Mobile Steam Unit fix by streaming them below. – Olivia Sisinni
Check out The Wimps’ self titled debut album
Part-time wimps, part-time Righmond rockers, The Wimps bring forth a peculiar blend of 60’s pop, alternative rock, and psychedelia. Listening to “Dream Girl” (the 10th track off their album), something comforting about this band’s rustic sound makes its way inside us. It’s vintage. It’s nostalgic. It’s the 1×12 combo amp spring reverbed guitar tone with a hint of tube crunch, not to mention the twangy, speech-driven vocal stylings of Brent McCormic, topped off with quirky lyrics of empty days and empty wallets. It takes us back to one of our favorite records from yester-millennium: Eric Burdon’s 1964 “House of the Rising Sun”. Take a listen to their full album The Wimps down below. –Ashley Muniz
New Track: “What It Seems” – Dylan Jane
On her latest EP, Dylan Jane surrounds herself with a cavalcade of local folk stalwarts. Produced by Brian Dale Allen Strouse (The Lawsuits), Deceiving Yourself and Everyone Else will be released on October 7. Featuring Friendship’s Peter Gill on pedal steel as well as Chelsea Mitchell (Dirty Dollhouse) on backing vocals, the album’s lead single, “What It Seems,” enlists a rolling, folk feel as bass, piano and percussion set the wheels in motion. Steadying the collage of twisting semi-dreamy imagery, the backing vocals offer a glimmer of brightness amid the tug and pull of contemplation. Dylan Jane will be celebrating the record’s release this Thursday, October 6 at Bourbon & Branch, which will also include Friendship, Solar and Chelsea Mitchell.
Willie Green drops new album and feathered octopus.
Not since Dabrye’s two/three has a producer collected such a monstrous and diverse group of rappers and pushed them out of their comfort zones and into the further realms of phantasmagoria. In the video for “The Feathered Octopus,” the first of hopefully a whole series from his new Doc Savage EP, Brooklyn producer wunderkind Willie Green provides a polyrhythmic backdrop for two of indie hip hop’s preeminent lyricists to wax intangibles. Like the album, the vid is rife with hip hop cameos. Watch repeatedly, you will be wrestling with more than the language. – BrokeMc
New Track: “Evaporate” – Purples
Sounds of dogs barking, parades, and strings hang in the periphery of Purples new song “Evaporate”. Once one enters into the sonic forest, the flex of soaring guitars counters the band’s juxtaposing blend of jangly grooves and vocal harmonies. It’s laidback, before kicking into overdrive. You can catch the band alongside The Dawn Drapes and The Collingwood tomorrow evening at Bourbon & Branch.
Jeremiah Meece
Chicago producer Jeremiah Meece helmed the board for Mykki Blanco’s debut album Mikki, and now, he is ready to share a bit of his own material. The sensual single, "Falling Down," slinks around your body as its whispy production hovers from up above. You can find it on Meece’s debut solo album Vocal EP1, due out September 30 via Nina Pop.
Halfnoise releases ‘Sudden Feeling,’ goes on a 4 week US tour
Turn up the noise! Or should I say “half” noise? Nashville’s Zac Farro is coming at us with his downright hypnotic indie pop album Sudden Feeling, the third release of Farro’s solo project, Halfnoise. One could simply melt away into the multifarious pad, lead, and bass synths that swirl, swell, and shimmer over a percussive hodgepodge—not to mention Farro’s smooth, velvety tenor vocals as they proclaim the sorrows, losses, and loves of times past. The sound is quite reminiscent of The Postal Service’s solemn vibes shrouded in a lighthearted aesthetic. Just take a listen to the album’s title track (streaming below) and you’ll know what I mean. And in case you need another taste we’ve added his single In The Summer down below as well. Halfnoise is touring the states this Fall, so grab a copy of Sudden Feeling to help you wait out his arrival. – Ashley Muniz
