Jaye Bartell brings his moody folk to Baby’s All Right on 10.16

Posted on:

Jaye Bartell‘s "Light Enough" is a record born out of a very particular kind of self-inflicted seclusion: the paradoxical one happening in one the most populated pieces of land in the world: Brooklyn. Somebody‘s referred to this phenomenon as "The Lonesome Crowded West." Greenpoint, specifically, is where the songwriter moved to in 2013, from Asheville, NC (he’s originally from Massachusetts), looking – we assume – for inspiration after a series of early releases. The only embeddable song from the album, ‘Laundry Line’ (streaming) perfectly represent the full album, echoing at once Leonard Cohen’s intimate existentialism and Syd Barrett’s droney, suspended melodies (Barrett’s fans should check out opener ‘G & Me‘). The mostly acoustic guitar work also deserves a mention, for its beautiful simplicity. The fact that Baby’s All Right booked Jaye is an extra reason to pay attention to this artist, so you may want to check out his upcoming show on October 16.

We added this song to The Deli’s playlist of Best mellow songs by emerging NYC artists – check it out!

With driving, meaty licks and visceral vocal performances, Baltimore-based Multicult is all you could ever want out of your local noise rock band. Stream Multicult below, and be sure to check them out at the Windup Space 10/28 with Puerto Rico Flowers and the Holy Circle.-Olivia Sisinni

Premiere: Crushed Out’s latest music video “Out of the Blue”

Posted on:

NYC-based husband/wife team, Crushed Out, is back at it again, and The Deli is thrilled to premiere the duo’s newest music video, "Out of the Blue." The video spotlights the band’s super fun, assuredly trippy aesthetic, and the tune alternates heavy, bluesy riffs with the group’s signature surf rock hooks–making "Out of the Blue" feel ambiguous in decade, but instantly infectious. Check out the premiere of "Out of the Blue" below, and if you’re hungry for more, listen to Crush Out’s soundcloud here.-Olivia Sisinni

Luray brings ambient-banjo-indie to Hardywood Craft Brewery 10/14

Posted on:

Ambient, banjo-lead indie rock is a descriptor that’s sure to turn heads, but Luray, a band who fails to fit neatly into the hard lines of "alt-folk," really does encompass all of those elements. Pairing synths with traditional folk, the Richmond VA-based group gives bluegrass/americana a fresh face, successfully blending old with new. Listen to Luray streaming below, and check them out at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery with Camp Howard and Mikrowaves on 10/14.-Olivia Sisinni

Ghost of Jupiter to release new album 10/21 at Lizard Lounge

Posted on:

MA-based Ghosts of Jupiter blend beautifully etheral vocals with swirling guitars and strong synths to creating a powerful psychedellic potion. The band, who are set to drop a new album this month, effortlessly span a liminal time place–sounding distinctively like a vintage record store pickup, without falling into psych-band tropes that are long tired out. Check out Ghosts of Jupiter 10/23 at the Lizard Lounge to pick up a copy of their latest release, The Great Bright Horses, but in the meantime you can stream their first single off the album below.-Olivia Sisinni

A Deli NYC Premiere: Michael Hanf of San Fermin: “Keep Feeling”

Posted on:

The Deli is happy to premiere Michael Hanf‘s song "Keep Feeling", a taste of the drummer’s solo project outside of San Fermin. Hanf’s voice, here vaguely reminiscent of Grandaddy Jason Lytle’s expressive alto, lead this stripped-down and organic track, giving us just enough of that diaphanous vibraphone (an instrument he also masters), fuzzy guitar, and laid-back drums. Check out "Keep Feeling" down below, and keep an eye out for a new releases on his Soundcloud page! – Ashley Muniz

Philosophical Zombie to play Great Scott 10/14

Posted on:

Philosophical Zombie delivers moody, post-punk vibes that feel as dark as they do danceable. The group is set to drop an album this month entitled Cotard’s, but if the already released single "Dream On" is anything to judge by, listeners can expect interesting chord progressions, spacey sounds, and weirdly infectious hooks from the new release. Check out their album release party 10/14 at Great Scott with Babydriver, but in the meantime, stream "Dream On" below.-Olivia Sisinni
