Tempest Le Mans releases new song “In My Room”

Posted on:

With a quick search of L.A. artist Tempest Le Mans, we are instantly reminded of a genre of music from a not so distant past. The Valley singer-songwriter Nathan Castiel created a seventies vibe that reigns in the most nostalgic feelings through his newest single, “In My Room”. His sound is something straight from my parents’ record player circa 1976, and it has the most refreshing and flawless acoustics. It takes the listener on a sentimental journey accompanied by soothing melodramatic melodies, ingenious writing and soulful consciousness. Check out Tempest Le Mans on soundcloud or bandcamp to get your fill. – Kayla Hay

Henry Hall unveils video for “Dream Lover” + plays Hotel Cafe on 10.14

Posted on:

Here’s a video that will send you mixed messages (upliftingly cringeworthy?) by NYC/LA based artist Henry Hall for new single "Dream Lover". It starts off with the artist standing in front of a green screen, gazing into the camera with sympathetic eyes, and singing amidst an escalating rhythmic groove defined by a tight, punchy beat and brisk guitar strums… until the words "I’m in love with my girlfriend’s sister" are uttered, after which Henry breaks out a goofy smile, and begins to dance, his body overimposed on a montage of vintage movies. It is dark, but it’s quite humorous as well. Check it out down below, catch him live at LA’s The Hotel Cafe on October 14, and stay tuned if you want more, there’s an EP underway! – Ashley Muniz

Thanks Light Melt Minds and Faces with “Family Jewels”

Posted on:

Adrenaline-infused pscyhedlia pours out from the hard-rocking warped reality of the Thanks Light. Their new single "Family Jewels" begins normal enough with the hushed and seductive vocals of Zane Ruttenberg but quickly devolves into a chaotic swirl of reverb that is reminiscent of noise rockers METZ or Pissed Jeans. Thanks Light embraces the appeal of structured alt-rock but moreso relishes in it’s destruction, amidst a myriad of synths, gutteral growls, and shrieking guitars. "Family Jewels" is the first single off of the new LP Psychonauts, which as the name suggests, should be a mind-altering exploration into the fractal conscience of one of Austin’s more unique rock bands.

New Track: “Can’t Keep Cool” – Spill

Posted on:

Take a listen to “Can’t Keep Cool,” the lead single from Top Ten, the debut full-length LP from Spill, which premiered at Brooklyn Vegan. Lyrically describing the bottling up of emotions and almost sinking at a pool party whilst seeking temporary distraction, it is surrounded by pulsating percussion and the fuzzy punch of guitar. The song dips into murky waters; however, an anthem-esque, universal energy results. Top Ten is set for release on December 16 via No Sleep Records.

Deem Spencer releases new EP ‘Sunflower,’ to perform at Don Pedro on 10/25

Posted on:

The blurring of the lines between the hip-hop and RnB genres has been an exciting development in recent years. Headliners like Frank Ocean, and Isaiah Rashad have highlighted a generation of emcees that like to sing, or crooners that spit bars on ocassion. deem spencer is an emerging Queens based artist that belongs to this category. Over the past year, the he has maintained a steady stream of output, culiminating in the release of his Sunflowers EP a month ago. Spencer’s appeal as an artist lies in striking, abstract lyrics and tense, atmospheric production. His backing instrumentals, while lush, are also stripped down, allowing for his poetic lyrics and soft vocals, whether they be sung or rapped, to take center stage. If his music puts you in the mood, you can check him out live on 10/16 at Don Pedro. – Henry Solotaroff-Webber

New Music Video: “Bring Yo Friends” – Tunji Ige

Posted on:

Josh “Glassface” Goldenberg merges an interesting series of imagery in the video for “Bring Yo Friends,” found on Tunji Ige’s mixtape Missed Calls. An old-school premiere countdown opens the proceedings. Then, a mixture of black & white, low-key Brooklyn bridge performance visuals, interspersed with flashes of widespread settings and morphing animation, give the production a chill but hyperactive touch.

girlyboi drop new (mini-)LP “Good Looks”

Posted on:

girlyboi is back at it again with new six tracks mini-album Good Looks, and the release is an instant stunner. The duo’s vocals are either ethereal or snarling, and set against a bed of ambient synths or folk-influenced indie pop. The tracks work in a way that feels like the epitome of understated ny-cool. What’s even more engaging however is the lyrical content of Good Looks: the record positions the listener as a voyeur pulling back the curtains–it weaves raw, honest emotions in a way that feels (maybe even too-) close-to-home for anyone who’s tried their hand at navigating love and the city. Good Looks is at once intimate, and instantly relatable. Listen to the EP streaming below. – Olivia Sisinni
