Options is the solo project of recording engineer and musician Seth Engels. With it, he pushes the bedroom-pop aesthetic to its technical limits, successfully weaving together high-end songcraft with quality production that is often not found in the variety of genres in which his music lands upon. Constructed independently from the ground up, his newest release, Maxed Out, is now available via Sooper Records. Options will be starting his tour down to The Fest later this week in support of the new record.

Mood Music: Small Leaks Sink Ships – “Window”
As yet another Monday rears its head back and breathes fire onto the end of weekend’s laziness, let’s attempt to make the best of it with a new track from Small Leaks Sink Ships. The quartet just signed to Lefse Records earlier this month, coinciding with the release of "Window."
"Window" shows Small Leaks Sink Ships doing what they do best – mashing math rock with Sunny Day Real Estate-esque emo that’s both nostalgically pleasing and refreshingly new. They’ve faced a lot of crap in their day (which you can read about HERE) and have still forged on, making them true #goals of inspiration for making it through anything hellish.
Give "Window" a listen below.

The Yeahtones celebrate debut album release at Rockwood on 11.06
The Yeahtones’ debut album is 9 tracks of snarling, garagey blues rock that hit the listener with fuzzy, sledgehammer riffs right out of the gate. The LP, titled Eviction Notice, promises lots of bluesy licks and sweeping visceral payouts, all while managing catchy, melodic leads. Though the album is called Eviction Notice, I think it’s safe to say that the Yeahtones won’t be getting kicked to the curb anytime soon. Listen to the premiere of Eviction Notice streaming below, and catch the Yeahtones at their album release party at Rockwood’s Stage 2 on November 6th. – Olivia Sisinni
Pavo Pavo unveils stunning video for “Ran Ran Run,” debut album out on 11.11
There’s only one thing that can make a great song even better, and that’s a visually stunning video, and that’s what the collective called SWIMMERS pulled off for NYC’s orchestral pop quartet Pavo Pavo’s single "Ran Ran Run," a single we alrady raved about when it came out more than one year ago. The video comes with some news we were waiting for: Pavo Pavo is about to release their debut album on November 11 under Bella Union Records – it will be entitled ‘Young Narrator In The Breakers.’ This is a group of young but extremely competent musicians who worked closely with indie and classical heavyweights such as Here We Go Magic, John Zorn, Dave Longstreth, Porches, Olga Bell, Lucius, Roomful of Teeth, and San Fermin. The record was co-produced by Danny Molad (Lucius) and Sam Cohen (Yellowbirds, Apollo Sunshine), so expectations should be high. Check out also the other single available for streaming, ‘Wiserway,’ also streaming Below. The band will be performing at Manhattan Inn on 10.19.
Theo Kandel releases heartfelt single “Jumping Ship”
Claiming to have been “writing music that makes all the moms cry since ’96,” singer/songwriter Theo Kandel writes straight from the heart. In his single, “Jumping Ship” he has a strong command of voice, knowing when to belt and when to soften up a bit to create a truly genuine song. Inspired by the likes of The Avett Brothers, The Lumineers, and Bob Dylan, his poetic lyrics are seamlessly accompanied by the soft strumming of a guitar. Having recently played a show at Rockwood Music Hall, Theo Kandel is working on new music aimed at make you think, and possibly, cry. – Madeleine Grossman

Explode Into Colors’ Beneficial Reunion
Portland was an entirely different place back in 2008. The music community was still an actual community not divided, nor were the skylines divided by the rooftops of newly built condos and startups. On top of all this, Explode Into Colors basically exploded into the scene, offering a sound unlike the typical "I’m sad and everyone knows it" vibe Portland was used to.
Though they never actually made it to releasing a full album, their legacy of haunted noise punk lives on as does their advocacy for all-ages spaces. Drummer Claudia Meza, who like many of us and especially ones that didn’t necessarily grow up in Portland, grew up absorbing the influence of live performances. All-ages venues were once an important facet for developing creative youth and are, for the sake of Explode Into Colors dual reunion sets today, something still deserving of the music community’s attention.
"It’s crazy to me that Portland, which boasts such a vibrant music scene, doesn’t have a proper all ages space where up and coming bands are able to grow and play," says Meza. "Every city needs an all ages space, it creates community, totally makes better musicians, and it fosters a more inclusive and varied music scene. Every adult in every local music community should feel a personal responsibility to help make all ages spaces a reality."
That’s why Explode Into Colors will be playing two sets tonight at Mississippi Studios. The first one is open to everyone with Hugo Berlin and Wampire also on the bill, starting at 6pm. It’s a benefit for Friends of Noise, an organization dedicated to providing a safe all-ages space and all-ages shows in Portland’s various neighborhoods.
Explode Into Colors’ 9pm set with Lithics and the Ghost Ease is 21+ and sold out, with proceeds going to keeping LA’s the Smell open for its diverse masses.
Saturday Night Sounds: Dowager – “Sleep Paralysis”
With Mother Nature seemingly on a mission to tear the world around us apart, why not enjoy a fresh track that packs just as much weight as the weather? Last week, local post hardcore sect Dowager announced the approaching release of their second EP, Title Track, and subsequently shared its first single "Sleep Paralysis."
‘Dowager fever’ is quickly spreading around the states for quite good reason. They have somewhat a nostalgic approach to the genre, so if you’re wise on the ways of hardcore/metalcore/awesome from the early 2000’s, then you’ll understand. As if a premiere on Stereogum wasn’t proof enough, they’ve even landed on this week’s Top Songs of the Week for Consequence of Sound, further confirming their received national attention.
Give "Sleep Paralysis" a listen below and be sure to stop Dowager’s only October set tomorrow for drummer Ben Scott’s birthday at Valentines. Title Track is due out just after Thanksgiving on 11/25.
Goodman premieres single ‘Strangehold,’ plays Sunnyvale on 10.17
With that good… boy look that’s front and center in all of his press pictures, (Michael) Goodman builds the right expectation for the track we are premiering here, included in his upcoming album "The Vicissitudes," out on Invertebrate Records in February. The young Brooklyn based songwriter can certainly get things rocking if he wants to, but ‘Strangehold’ is a classic sounding pop ballad that requires crooning and a more subtle delivery, since it will, in all likelihood, throw you back in the arms of your teenage crush, on that very special night when he or she ended up slow-dancing with you, and triggering what Goodman refers to in the song as a "strangehold," his word for a love spell. Straddling the line between John Lennon’s more mellow post-Beatles moments, and Blur’s early ballads, this is as Brit pop as it gets, at least here in the Big Apple. Goodman has a remarkably large repertoire on his Soundcloud profile, and will be performing at Sunnyvale on 10.17.
